Where do I find ores?
I went to the south to the desert, and I've found titanium, uranium and gold, but no aluminium or cobalt, where do i find them?

Soulguard posted some hints which were pinned to be easy to find. He said:

Mining Zones (devs are reporting that tweaks to this will happen in coming updates):
Temperate Zone (Crash/Spawn): Iron, Carbon, silicon (some silver)

Poles (North-south): Aluminum, cobalt, titanium, (some Silver, iron)

Equator (dessert and tropical): Gold, Uranium, Silver, Aluminum (some iron, cobalt)
{Each zone can have a small supply of other ores, but they are harder to find }

Use your multi-tool in short left-click bursts to uncover the surface crust of areas that have no grass or anything growing on them. Often times you will see ore veins just underneath that crust. All of the ores are relatively easy to locate, it just takes some hunting and testing of different locales.

The most difficult (for me) was the Xaenite that you need to build the top tiers of your suit, jet-pack and multi-tool. I have (yet) to have located Xaenite just laying around or showing from the surface. In either the desert or "pole" areas, I typically drop some test auto-miners and can harvest the Xaenite that way in 5% draws which is enough to get the upgrade job done.

Before long you will be throwing away excesses of these ores...:steamhappy:

While I have auto-mined Xaenite in really nice quantities, I have yet to see an actual Xaenite vein in the ground. So what I did when I got to the area near (not at) the North Pole was to spot an area where I could see good veins of Uranium/Titanium mix. I plopped the auto-miners in several spots around that particular Uranium vein and soon found some Xaenite available in 5% amounts.

PS: I have pulled that same maneuver in the Desert to find Xaenite. For me, the Desert is where very little is growing. There are desert-like areas I've encountered, but the more barren the desert is where I've found Xaenite. This is just my experience so far with this stuff and I may (yet) find other examples that run counter to it.

Absolutely. You don't have to make a trek all the way to the poles to find those particular ores. I have found them (typically) within 1K of my base and have lived in tropical areas and desert-like areas. Here is where I'm residing now and I can get those ores within a short walk from my base.

The key thing is that you need to do some hunting and scratch the surface of areas near you. It often lies just below what appears to be just red-dirt, sand, etc. Sometimes, you can spot the faint resemblence of ore veins on the surface of the ground in addition to clearly seeing it inside of holes and caves.

thing is i am in the desert now and all i find is insane loads of titanium, gold and uranium, no silver, aluminium or cobalt OR xaenatite anywhere

Hmm, I have to move to desert. I have a cold biome nearby and I found cobalt, silver, aluminium but no uranium and titanium.

The actual Desert (not the desert-like area I'm living in) is one of my favorite places for all the ores (including Xaenite). Plop down an auto-miner Lashman in that area and I'd be surprised if you don't start harvesting those ores. Sometimes you have to be willing to move the auto-miner around a bit to locate good deliveries (%'s) of various ores. Don't plop it to close to those Uranium/Titanium veins or that is mostly what you will harvest.

so what materials do i need for an auto miner
Capt_Koron Aug 26, 2017 @ 10:20pm
I now have auto mines in several areas. I've located pretty much every ore including Xenite. I found it in rocks near the South Pole, but after going pretty much to the very pole itself, I found a vein. I set up an auto miner and large box. It is around 7.5 km from where I dropped to this planet. I have all the other mines within 2 km of the base.
