"A Guide to Investigating For New Players"
Hello, my name is Loki. I have roughly around 27 hours on this game and I feel I have gathered enough knowledge to be able to play this game in a some what decent manner. So I'm writing this guide to help new players. Let's go over some stuff real quick. I've never written a guide before, so bear with me.

-When hit with the flashlight the monster will spew out a blackish red substance, I'm not sure what this is, so from here on out, I will refer to it as blood.

Also, as this game is still in Beta it is subject to change, which means this guide will too. If/when this happens I will do my best to update it in a timely manner. I will also do my best to avoid giving in game tips. Let's begin.

General:

-So the first and obvious tip is to try and stick together. I know I just said I would do my best to avoid in game tips, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen new players just walk off on their own. This isn't necessarily bad, I'll cover solo play in a bit.

-When hit with the flashlight the monster will spew out blood, we covered this already so try to keep up.

-When you hear/see the monster around, you need to get close enough to him with your flash light so that you see him spew blood out. Once you do this, DO NOT keep staring at him. Turn the other direction and RUN like hell. I'm pretty sure all of us just sat there with our flashlight on him thinking he will just disappear. I'm guilty of this but I can assure you it doesn't work, with the exception of him grabbing a teammate. Once the blood comes out the monster has a few seconds before he is forced to teleport away. So it's best to be long gone before that happens.

-When the monster grabs a teammate, try to avoid eye contact with him till you're close enough to hit him with the flashlight, once you see the blood spew out, INSTANTLY turn around. So many new players, including me, have just sat there staring at him. The reason we turn around instantly is because staring at the monster for too long will cause you to lose your sanity. Which is time you could be spending searching for the next tape.

-Idols are a tool that the monster can use, it will give away your location when close enough to it. This too will cause you to lose your sanity while staring at it. So avoid it and eye contact unless necessary.

-Decoys: I know another in game tip, bad Loki. I have a reason for this. When you see these Alien Eggs lying around, destroy them. I've played with quite a few people who will just leave them. They mess up your compass and project a false Tape sound.

-After playing enough your going to get comfortable with the game and maps. Which leads us to our next tip. Always play with out your flashlight. Anyone who plays with me can tell you, I rarely have my flashlight on. The reason I do this is because the flashlight tells the monster where you are when he is close enough. I only use it in certain situations. I'll cover this in a bit.

-When playing with flash light off, you're not really going to need batteries. Pick them up anyways but only if your teammates don't need them. You get 25 points per pick up, and get an overall better score for doing so. (Thanks Dragon for the tip)

-Ok, so at some point when you're playing, you're going to get seperated from your team. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Solo play can be really great if you know what you're doing. When playing solo, away from group, never turn on your flashlight; unless you know the monster is nearby. Being solo can be a very good thing. You only rely on your compass, you don't have to follow a group who is constantly changing directions. A solo player can easily recover a good portion of the tapes. Although I only recommed this if you have become fairly familiar with the game, because if the monster gets a hold of you, you're done for.

-I wrote this before my game updated and Character Traits were added. So here's a list of people who should not run Solo. Kurt: Loses 15% movement speed when 15m away from other Investigators, Sarah: Loses 50% more sanity when 15m away from other Investigators, Jean Luc: Gives the monster 25% power if he is devoured so it's best for him to stick with group.

-People who can run Solo. Anna: She moves 15% slower when next to other Investigators this makes her acceptable to run solo, Rinko: Her compass is more accurate than other Investigators and she has no penalties for being away from other Investigators, Phileas: Other Investigators have there movement speed reduced by 10% when 10m close to him, Hannah: She is the fastest Investigator in the game, which means she can cover more ground alot faster, she gets a 20% speed boost for 5 seconds after seeing the monster which make her perfect for soloing Tapes.

-Glowsticks are your friend. So this tip is really beneficial. You're only going to need two glow sticks out at a time. When throwing glowsticks you want one player to throw one ahead of you and one player to throw one behind you, this tatic is mainly used in the Hospital. Now the reason we do it this way and only use two is because there are alot of four way intersections in the hospital. Having a glow stick behind and in front of you will cover those two sides if a monster comes that way. If the monster ever comes from your left or right you simply run back or forward to your glowsticks, they cause the monster to slow down and make escape alot easier. Since you only used two, you now have two left to use for when your in a new area. Once your ability is up again, rinse and repeat.

-Yelling: I can not stress enough how important it is to avoid spamming this. Only use this if you feel your teammates are far away and you want to group back up with them. Using this ability instantly tells the monster where you are if he is range. And the range on it is pretty far.

Hospital:

Alot of stuff has already been covered. Your on your way to becoming a better Investigator.
Mainly everything we've covered so far will be beneficial on the Hospital level, so this segment will be relatively short. I will recommend what flashlights to use on the map.

-Standard flashlight works well on this map. Since the Hospital is packed and has corners this flash light is great. You don't really need a flashlight with Spread on this map.

-Periscope flashlight is somewhat decent on this map. It has a low battery life but is great with stealth characters and has a decent battery life.

-Light Bar is an all around good flashlight, although it has spread, it has great battery life, endurance, and speed.

Norwood Prairie:

Ok this map is a game changer. Your tactics are going to change some what when playing this map. Solo play becomes some what harder and you're going to use your flashlight alot more. So let's start this already.

-Grouping up is very important on this map. Since it is so open and outside it is very easy to get turned around and lose your sense of direction. I have lost many teammates on this map without even realizing it. So stick together and pave your way to Victory.

-Flashlights: If you've gotten comfortable enough to play without the flashlight, then I congratulate you!!!! On this map though..... we're going to use it quite often. The main reason we use the flashlight on this map is because of how dark it is. The lighting without the flashlight isn't as great as it is in the Hospital. When you encounter the monster on this map, and get him to spew blood, FLICK ON THAT FLASHLIGHT! Since the lighting is terrible on this map you're going to find yourself getting stuck on every little thing. Hence the reason we turn on the flashlight, while being chased we want to avoid getting caught on rocks, trees, fences, and walls. Getting caught on these will cause you to get caught in return. So light it up when running for your life.

-Glowsticks: Ok so the old tactic is still a litte viable on this map. Since the map is so open though the monster can come at you from practically any direction. What I like to do is save my glowstick for when I know the monster is near. Once I see the monster coming I throw my glowstick in the direction im going to run then book it, but this map has bridges and the monster loves to popout of nowhere when crossing over that bridge. So I would also recommend tossing a glow stick over the bridge just to be safe.

-Solo play just got a lot harder. You don't have corners to juke the monster, or hallways to ensure you get a glowstick retreat. Headphones are your best friend on this map. If you don't have headphones, make sure your speakers work well and there is no background noise. This tip is a good one in general, although it's an even better one on this map. You need to be aware of your surroundings at all time, and listen for that sneaky little monster. If you do see the monster coming for you, just do what we've covered already. Get him to spew his undying love for you then run like HELL! Also, flashlights.....

-Lightposts are new to this map, there are some lights in the hospital but they are mostly over objects so there for they don't play an important role like they do in this map. Lightposts can be your best friend. Since the monster is weak to light, having to walkthrough the light of these will cause him to slow down. If you're near one and you hear the monster coming RUN FOR COVER! Once you get your sights on him just circle around the light until he's foced to come in through the opposite side. Once he does spew his guts, pop a glowstick in the direction you're going to run, and bye bye monster.

Flashlight:

-Professional Flashlight: So on this map, since it is so open, we want flashlights that have Spread. They cover more of your surrounding and make it easier to spot the monster. The Professional is a great flashlight for this map and you get it at Level 2!

-Rusty Flashlight is really only good on this map if your running a character that has high stealth.

-Spot Light is amazing on this map. It has high range, high spread, and high exploration.

-Camping Lantern is a very verastile flashlight. It gives you highest stats in Battery Life, Spread, Stealth, Exploratrion. One of my favorite lights to use.

I've covered about everything I can think of to help you become a better Investigator. If I have missed anything or I am wrong about anything just let me know, I will give you credit for it. If you wish to play with me feel free to add me. Thanks for reading and I hope my guide has been able to help you banish that evil yet somewhat adorable monster.

Sincerely, Loki
