How's this game in 2018?
I've seen some reviews for this game that mostly say it's unbalanced, but they're about a year old. This game looks pretty interesting and comes at a good sale price: want to know if it's worth it.

Game isn't balanced perfectly, but it's far more balanced than any other assymetrical game I've played, referring mainly to F13 and DbD.

The game is just a little more complex with a lot of hidden mechanics, so a lot of new players get ♥♥♥♥ on. A lot of the long-time players joke about the newer players who constantly stun and stare, which is a guaranteed grab in every chase. It's not really a new thing, but level 1s are notorious for doing absolutely nothing in a chase.

If your main concern on getting the game is about balance, then get the game, because balance is mostly ok. Most of the negative reviews that criticize balance are from a lot of new players who didn't read the tutorials. If you play versus the investigator AI (which is incredibly dumb, the devs didn't put them in the game for a long time because they were so useless), they will usually do better.

That being said, many of the negative reviews criticizing other aspects of the game are pretty honest. The game's community is very small and content is no longer being released for it.

same as every other asymmetrical horror game ala dead by daylight, soul at stake etc etc. if you put 4 investigators/survivors who know what they're doing whether that is using voip or not against a good creature player, the creature will lose 99% of the times because this games ain't balanced around experienced players but rather newbies which is fine in my opinion. same can be said if a creature goes against a group of newbies they'll always lose cus the creature only gets stronger with time and new players take forever to do stuff.
that's not to say that this game as a whole lot of experienced players so vast majority of the lobbies are doable for the killer

i think it's fairly balanced as far as this type of games go and not as infuriating due to the lack of cheese

not many people playing the game right now so finding lobbies is a struggle but the game is extremely cheap if grabbed in 3rd party markets and for that price it's a steal and a damn good game

well it is difficult to balance an assymetric game.
But in my opinion it is rather well balanced. If beginners troll around, dont know basics or just do many mistakes, a low/medium skilled monster player will win this.
An experienced investigator team will easily win vs a bad monster player.
This is nothing special. The question is what happens if 4 skilled/experienced investigator players play vs a skilled/experienced monster player:
I dont agree at all to the 99% win rate said by lay.
We dont have regular stats about the win rates but I can say that a monster player has big problems vs a full experienced and coordinated investigator team.
But the skill ceiling in this game very high. I know a few very good monster players who still can win vs a full experienced investigator team, who can punish each little mistake they do, they make matches like this rather balanced.

Playing the monster at high skilled matches is much more difficult than playing the investigator. Mistakes you do can be solved by your teammates. As monster you are alone, vs a full experienced team you cant allow yourself any mistakes.
