Seems that the Quest for Glory wiki confirms that 1 gold = 10 silver.
http://questforglory.wikia.com/wiki/Money_(Spielburg)
1 gold = 10 silver
1 dinar = 100 centimes
1 royal = 100 commons
1 crown = 100 kopeks
(Drachmas are a single coin currency, which probably explain why being rich is so burdening and why the bank exists)
Also, there is a glitch in the VGA version where if you buy things too fast, you don't get the item but you lose the money. And I'm pretty sure the Power/Mana Potion are the exact same item.
Ah! That explains why I always thought 1 gold coin = 100 silver coins; the later games is a 1 = 100 conversion system. Thanks for the clarification.
I also figured that mana = power potion, but wanted to buy it to make sure the power potion wasn't a stronger mana potion. I finish it funny that not only Zara would overprice her crap (understandable since she probably sells it higher than the healer to gain a profit - she likely gets her potion from the healer), she re-brands it.
