I personally prefer to bring my character over through all five games: it helps it feel more contiguous to me.
I can't speak for your last question, since I own the games off of Steam. But in every game from 3 on forward you are able to either start as or change your class when you import to Paladin.
So, it is good to do multiclass or its better to focus on 1 class?
I'm in qfg1 as a fighter and struggling a little with how the game works and with the combat system.
Do you recommend grinding?
It's up to you. If you're struggling with how the game works it might be easier to focus on one class, however if you multi class, you can use multiple ways of getting through puzzles and events, so if may be easier in that regard.
On character creation if you up a skill that is 0, it takes 15 points to give it the initial 5 points, then it levels like a normal skill. So youd start with less skill points elsewhere, but the games have unlimited skull points, so this can be subverted with grinding.
I do grind, but not insane amounts. Usually while waiting for specific times of day, or to finish off the last hours of a day before you go to sleep I'll pick up rocks and practice throwing or practice climbing the tree at the healers house for example.
Basically if you're gonna go to sleep and have reserves of stamina left, use it up training something until you're exhausted, then go to bed
1. Yes, you can import from 1 all the way through 5. Stats carry over directly up through 3. Once you import to 4, the game automatically ups your almost all of your stats to minimum levels. The only stats that do not get automatically get bounced to starting game levels are Magic and all Spell skill levels.
2. Healing items and a few other things do carry over. For example, if you got a chain mail for your magic-user in Spielburg (game 1), that would follow you to Shapeir (game 2). If you stock up on healing items in game 2, they do come over to game 3. Don't stock on anything 3 - no items come over past game 4.
3. For the most part, each game won't remember what you did. This is because boolean flags are set in the character's export file for certain events. Also, QFG1 is the only game that had a good ending and a better ending. "Baba Yaga" is one of those boolean flags - this is put in there to affect how much money you start with (there was a reward for defeating Baba Yaga) but it does affect the final words spoken by Shema and Shameen at the end of QFG2. Since it's only one line, it was easy to flag.
4. QFG5 was the ONLY game in the series to come with a Paladin to import. The creators knew this would going to be the last game in the series, and the reasoning to make sure everyone had a chance to play through every route. There are noticeably different things the Paladins do in each game (which had the unfortunately affect of making the Fighter feel like Paladin Minus). QFG3 is the game that would allow you to start as a Paladin from the start.
5. And I agree with everyone else - DEFINITELY pull your character through. But don't feel as if you MUST grind. Grinding will make each game noticeably easier, and I think most people have fun with the game like this, but another way to play is to see how minimal your stats can be when you win. You will pull lower stats into the next game, but for the most part, there are ways to handle almost every situation even with low stats. The end of QFG2 in particular has a "never-say-die" kind of attitude.
I finished QFG1 just today and started 2 (using the fan remaster, i can't stand EGA :( )
I grinded a lot, but it was fun and the game was great.
Thanks for the advice.
Nice. :) Let me say for the record that QFG2EGA is MUCH more accessible than QFG1EGA. You don't die instantly every moment, so don't hesitate to give it a try... with a map. Definitely use a map. I use the QFG2 remake for speedruns, but I'll definitely say QFG2EGA is the better game from a time/technical standpoint. What that team at Sierra managed to do in such a short time, and the way they managed to get so much character into the world of 16-colors is just amazing.
Once you beat the remake, try the EGA - it'll give you a good idea of what you need to type and there'll be WAY less guess work.
You have a save file named GLORYX.sav (X being the number of the slot if you used more than one) in your QFG 1 directory (Steam/steamapps/common/Quest for Glory Collection/QG1).
Copy it and paste it in your QFG2 directory (QG2).
If you use the AGD SVGA remaster simply use the root directory as well (AGD Interactive/Quest For Glory II is the default)
also have another problem with qfg5... ive finished the game but a second playthrough is damaged somehow. i cant randomly get attacked. i get tthe sound a few times in a row and then the game just crashes :(
I've done it recently, and to export you do c:glory.sav
No slash or anything. And it will save into the saves folder of your game
