I'm gonna be honest and say that it's honestly not that bad. You don't need money for much of anything at all - potions are free once a day, you can buy everything you need after getting to town (and if you somehow don't have money, check one of the torches in Erana's Peace and you WILL have more money than you can spend) and then there's also the fact that the money doesn't transfer into the next game.

There ended up being no point for them in the final game.
I think there's an interview or a forum post where the Coles mentioned that they had plans for the jewelry but it fell through and it was just left in the game.
