hindie.steam.exe saves new empty scene under .hipnc
Hi everyone!
I've been working on Houdini for a few years now, both with the Apprentice license at home for trainning/R&D and commercial at work. I bought my first steam version of houdini recently and everything works perfectly expect one very strange thing :

I realized I couldn't save my scene in the indie format .hiplc. Whichever scene I open (.hiplc or even .hip), or start from empty, it saves as .hipnc.

As i've worked a lot between comercial and nc, I thought I'd know how it is supposed to work and that houdini switch to nc when openning an hipnc file or a file containing non-commercial hda. Here, it is not the case, houdini stays in Indie Limited-Commercial but all scenes are getting the .hipnc after saving.

Finally, here's two extra details I'd like to add to help troubleshooting the problem:
I'm using Houdini 17.5
All commercial features are still working (like the ROP Alembic Output is exporting geometries like it should with a commercial license.)

I've searched the net, but couldn't get anything close to my problem.
If anyone has a small clue or a suggestion, I'll be very happy to hear it !

Thanks !

Hi Ben,
Thanks for your answer.

Unfortunately, I've already setup my file association with the help of this guide.

I should also say that even when saving a file with adding .hiplc at the and of the file name, houdini saves it as a .hipnc.
And I do not have any apprentice version of houdini installed on my pc.

Thanks for the feedback. Would you mind submitting a bug for this issue to SideFX Support here: https://www.sidefx.com/bugs/submit/

Yeah sure!
Before doing that, I want to try something, just to be sure it's bug.

Because I thought it could be a license problem and so I decided to run the license administrator (hkey.exe). And when I did, I got this prompt message saying :

"In June 2020, SideFX is deprecating the API that this version of hkey uses to communicate with sidefx.com. Please upgrade hkey and sesictrl to version 18.0 or higher before then. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation."

I guess I should try that out and see if it helps fixing my pb.
Do you know how can I upgrade hkey and sesictrl to 18.0 but still working on Houdini 17.5 ?

Thanks for your assistance !

It is solved.

It wasn't a bug, but an old line of code in my houdini.env, which was fetching an element from non-commercial license.
I should've double checked my .env file.

Anyway, thanks a lot Ben for your quick replies,
You guys at sideFX are very reliable !
