How to setup a HQueue
Hi
I'm trying to build a HQueue, but it only works on my A computer which was installed HQueueServer and HQueueClient. I can't connect from my B computer through the IP address in browser which was installed HQueueClient. Both two computers are in the same network.
I'm not familiar to these internet thing. What else should I need to know or prepare to build a HQueue?

Thanks for the message, you can find the HQueue documentation here: https://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/hqueue/ . If you still have problems please email support@sidefx.com.

So I have a problem, I got everything set up and set the Target HFS to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Houdini Indie"

But the job errored out with this: " \Steam\steamapps\common\Houdini was unexpected at this time."

As a sanity check I also ran the default Target HFS that points to the distribution that was installed to the shared folder when installing HQueue: "$HQROOT/houdini_distros/hfs.$HQCLIENTARCH"

And as expected it just errored out due to licensing since I'm using the Steam version:
" Accessing "\\localhost\hq\houdini_distros\hfs.windows-x86_64\bin\hython" ...
License Error: Unable to connect to hserver for license acquisition
License Error: Unable to connect to hserver for license acquisition"

What is the correct Target HFS for Houdini Indie on Steam?

Thanks!

For the Target HFS, you should use forward slashes instead of backslashes. I'm not sure if the space in the path might be problematic or not. You might need to escape the space with a backslash (e.g. C:/Program\ Files\ (x86)/...)

Thanks for the reply, I definitely blanked on the forward slashes, haha. Unfortunately, still getting the same error even with backslashes before spaces: "C:/Program\ Files\ (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Houdini\ Indie"

Error is the same " \Steam\steamapps\common\Houdini\ was unexpected at this time.", don't know if there's any clues there. Maybe it's a Steam problem?

Anyway, not urgent, I'm just curious and dabbling around right now. Appreciate the response!

The Houdini Indie executable for Steam (hindie.steam) is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\steamapps\common\Houdini Indie\bin. Can you try using that path?

Tried adding bin and got the same message. Decided to try 8 char shorthand:

"C:/Progra~2/Steam/steamapps/common/Houdin~1"

And there seems to be progress, it got further but errored out on a license check fail:

"Accessing "C:\Progra~2\Steam\steamapps\common\Houdin~1\bin\hython" ...
No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host

Double checked that Steam was running and logged in on the other machine, but still erroring out.

So I wonder if this was ever figured out? I am trying to set up and went through 9 hoops to get stuck at this point, even tho i have houdini engine/karma/mantra tokens on license administrator..

I just got mine working,

Licensing issue is due to steam's limitations. So instead;

Install a new houdini from sidefx website and get a free houdini engine license.
Install to the default directory in C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\
Target HFS must be set to the directory from sidefx download, NOT steam version.
"C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini20.5.370" in my case.

This sorted my license error, tested with Karma.

Thanks to Silvina from sideFX support!
