Smoothbore vs Rifled Muskets

Having nearly 1600 hrs in this game now i have come to love my smoothbores no longer do i sell them but instead buy them up , While the rifled muskets have the range it all depends on how close you are to the enemy as to how much damage you inflict.

While most rifled muskets have a faster reload their damage output pales to a point blank volley from the good old 1842s not only that but they are very cost effective when playing on harder difficulties , Dont be fooled by their cheap price tag they are a very potent weapon as they were in the Civil War itself and i think Darth has done a great job representing them on the battlefield.

I think in the Civil War itself to much was made of the range of the rifled musket when in reality most engagements were below 100 yards ideal for buck and ball.

Baxter's Brigade wiped out Iverson's Brigade with a couple of volleys from their smoothbores at a range of 80 to 100 yards the smoothbore is a very potent weapon don't sell them use them and have fun.

I use them for the melee value.

Farmers are by far the best weapon ive seen if you play an ultra agresive route their SUPER high melee damage makes them evaporate any brigade you charge into with enough moral.
