Ultimate General: Civil War

Battles the should be added into the game.
Minor Battles:
Battle of Valverde: First battle in Sibley’s New Mexico Campaign, a poorly equipped Confederate army (shotguns and pistols mostly) pull off a miracle win after Union commander Edward Canby makes a mistake moving his forces. February 20-21st, 1862.

Battle of Monocacy: A forgotten battle, this battle was the battle that saved Washington. You would think it would be major and in that sense, yes, but the battle didn’t involve large armies and was smaller scale. The Confederates did win but the Union stalled them long enough to get to Washington that was fairly undefended due to Grant needing troops for the Overland Campaign. July 9th, 1864.

First Battle of Deep Bottom: In an attempt to lure Confederates away the skirmishing at Petersburg for the upcoming Battle of the Crater, a Union army under generals Hancock and Sheridan go on an expedition that threaten Richmond and its railroads. The Union forces were unable to breakthrough the Confederate fortifications at Bailey’s Creek and Fussell’s Mill but did temporarily weaken the Confederate lines at Petersburg and inflicted higher casualties on the Confederate army. July 27-29th, 1864.

Battle of Brice's Crossroads: Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest ambushes a larger Union force with his cavalry. He captured more than 1,600 prisoners of war, 18 cannons, and supply wagons from this victory. Forrest also gained enough intel to set up another ambush for another time.

Battle for Lookout Mountain (Part of Chattanooga scenarion, this battle can be played separately like a majority of the Gettysburg scenarios): The first of three battles in the Chattanooga Campaign, Hooker battled Stevenson’s men as they attempted to take the Confederates position on Lookout Mountain that overlooked the city and allowed Confederate access of the river. The Union take the hill. November 24th, 1863.

Major Battles:
Battle of Glorieta Pass: The “Gettysburg of the West”, this battle effectively ended Sibley’s New Mexico Campaign after the Confederates were forced to retreat after their supplies were destroyed. Had the Confederates won, the Union would’ve been denied a huge source of financing for the war effort from the gold fields of Colorado and the Confederates would’ve had a good boost in economy. The Union navy would’ve had difficulty in blockading the South had the Confederates also won this battle. Only two extremely minor battles occurred after this battle, Glorieta Pass was the decisive battle that would’ve decided the fate of the campaign. March 26-28th, 1862.

Battle of Chaffin's Farm: A battle with nearly 5,000 casualties, the Battle of Chaffin’s Farm marked heroism by colored troops at Fort Gregg after beating the Confederates off New Market Heights where the defenders took 50 casualties compared to the Unions 850. At Fort Harrison, Union forces take the fort but all their commanders are either wounded or killed and the arrival of Confederate ironclads put an end to the drive. Lee is forced to shift his resources and the Union are able to win the Battle of Peebles’ Farm. September 29-30th, 1864.

Chattanooga Campaign (Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge combined like most of the big scenarios.): After the disaster at the Battle of Chickamauga, the Union retreated back to the city of Chattanooga. Braxton Bragg’s men set up on Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, both spots provided good view of the city and laid siege. Grant arrived to help relieve the siege. Bragg’s defeat eliminated the last significant Confederate control of Tennessee and opened the Deep South for invasion, such as Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign. November 24-25th, 1863.

Battle of Five Forks: This crushing Confederate defeat saw the Union take the crucial South Side Railroad that provided supplies and an evacuation route. Around 4,000 Confederates are taken prisoner. Lee is forced to send troops to reorganize Pickett’s shattered line. April 1st, 1865.

Breakthrough at Petersburg (3rd Battle of Petersburg, yes there was three.): After the Union victory at Five Forks, Grant attacks Lee’s fortifications at Petersburg that we’re thinly held. Confederate general A.P. Hill is killed in action and the Union take Petersburg and Richmond on April 3rd before pursuing and catching Lee at Appomattox Courthouse. April 2nd, 1865.

As great as this game is, it long overdue for more battles to be added in, it loses its touch replaying the same battles over and over again, though kind of fun to see how it plays out each time. Additional battles would make the campaign also more lively and give us more chances to rebuild or add onto our armies, oh and more achievements to unlock.

What are some battles you all would like to see added?

You may be interested in this mod. It doesn't add battles, but it does completely change up a lot of the game and lets the AI spawn extra brigades.

Considering that the war was decided in the West, it would be nice to have more battles in the Vicksburg, Red River, Atlanta, and Nashville campaigns

For those of us who are not American Civil War scholars it would be nice if you could provide short summeries for why you think these battles should be added. Right now all I see is a bunch of battles but I don't have a clue as to why I should care.

Thanks for expanding your post and also teach me some news stuff about the American Civil War.

These battles do look very interesting and I hope they may get added in the near future, probably in a DLC, but that's better than nothing. :)
