Civil War or Gettyburg
hey guys
I am new to the series. Do you recommend the original UG or the Civil War follow up as a first step for newcomers?
Thank you

UGCW would be my choice as it is a newer game and has more variety and longevity

I recommend UGCW. If you do a campaign you will get to Gettysburg!

so I guess, the original UG is an outdated, useless relic and shouldn't be bought in 2020-2021?

It really depends what you're looking for. Gettysburg handles the actual battle better than UGCW. You've got multiple different options on how you want to proceed based on how the battle is going unlike in CW where the battle is more statically scripted.

The combat engines are relatively the same. One big difference is that artillery in UGG have much more strict line of sight restrictions.

Being the older game, the controls and UI aren't quite as good in UGG. Starting with UGCW and then going back is definitely rough.

UGG also has multiplayer which UGCW does not. Player base isn't large, bit it's still usually possible to find a game.

Overall it's hard to recommend over UGCW, but it can still be worth while.

well I am looking for an accessible way for me to get into the UG series. Am I missing Gettyburg campaign with Civil War if I just stick with Civil War?

If Gettyburg map is included in Civil War, then one must wonder if UG: Gettyburg is still relevant nowadays..I don't play MP

For replay-ability UGCW. I've got about 11 hrs play in UG Gettysburg and 1807 hrs in UG Civil War.

I prefer Gettysburg because of the multiplayer, which is a must have for me

It's not so much the tutorials, it's more that, in Gettysburg, there's less to manage. You're given a set army and just have to focus on using it well, rather than having to build, equip and maintain your own forces like you do in the UGCW campaign.

That said, you could always get UGCW and just play the historical battles to begin with while you learn the ropes.
