Your worst battle?
Which battle is your personal nightmare in the campaigns?

For me it's Mule Shoe as Union. What a bloody, horrible slaughter. After I won this I had to take a break, I felt dirty and depressed. I REALLY hate this battle.
Second is South Mountain ( Union ).

There are some interesting strategies I've learned for Mule Shoe from watching Simply Compass and Pandakraut videos. Simply Compass brought a s-ton of 20 and 10 pound parrotts and pounded away for hours killing off all the enemy Arty. Personally, I take almost everyone down to the lower left corner, wait for reinforcement 2nd Corps and take THEM all down to the lower left, and attack across the bottom. Take the flag at the end of the timer and hit FINISH as soon as it expires and move on.

The battle I hated most was on Legendary difficulty -- the CSA Brandy Station battle -- you have only AI supplied men, mostly Cavalry, and you have to stop waves of Union coming at you from all directions. Ugh.

Minor correction, Something Compass is the name you're looking for. Here is the specific video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zrh5deytfc&list=PLt-JAMmvyAGnbrADDeAM04mxBsI9FyWQ0&index=38

Everettsville(nothing but trees) and Distress Call(the terrible pathing around the forts) are my two least favorite.

Pretty impressive, when I fought there it was just a bloody chaos. I like how well-ordered he acts, keeps formation and lines and whipes the Confeds systematically out.

before i found a decent strategy to win stones river as the confederacy, I always found that battle horrific.

It was always end up with my crashing headlong into union lines then last ditch suicide charging the defences and effectively losing most of my army

Yeah, this is one of a hell to start a campaign with. What where the devs thinking? All in all it's a cool battle and, at least in my opinion, way easier than the first battle of the Confed campaign. But yeah, it's made to scare off and chase off new players

theres some battle as the union i forget which but you get a small contingent of your army, and then most is made up of small units equipped with lever actions. i usually end up throwing them at the rebels because they get outranged otherwise. many dead, many free guns though...
Hardin Pike. No flanking options, slow advance, and artillery positioned all around. The only battle I didn't achieve a victory on during my Confederate campaign.

You actually have a lot of extra time at Hardin Pike which lets you do a lot of prep work with artillery and snipers to minimize your losses. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEmpQ58Abko&list=PLNFTAFys32_-N-fIfWJgRSJIhVtOZjEGe&index=55
@pandakraut

You do have more time then you think on Hardin Pike, but the game is vague about how much time you have in the 'Finish' phase or whether the phase exists at all for that battle. Unless one read a guide, you would believe you had far less time then you actually do which is one my issues with this battle and a few others. Looking back I could've done it better, but reloading would be kind of cheesy, and the map just annoys me entirely too much. I appreciate the example and advice though.

Guides or a lot of trial and error testing are definitely necessary to figure out the exact timers. It's certainly not a point in the games favor. The good news is D-Dub's guides document the timers for nearly every battle at this point so it's easy to look up.

With me it's Richmond. There's a monotony to the constant banging away at trenches and forts--but mostly it's the serious glitches that I've never been able to work around--each time losing 5-6 units that wander off a phase-starting line-up never to be seen again. In short, I like battles where the enemy may kill me, but hate battles where the developers do.
