Division command through the AI
Has anyone tried the division level AI, where you can hand over command of an entire division to the AI with an Attack or Defend objective? I'm tempted to play a bunch of battles via the AI only.. no micro to get the sense of commanding a grand army, but wanted to know if that's plausible.

If you click-select a division, the command bar shows an AI button and you can set Attacking or Defending stance. If it works well, should make playing large maps easier. Would be super cool if the general's personality affected how the AI plays!

I did try it out, test it (along with some other observations.)

Player AI Fighting the Enemy. This was in the new player update n custom map Mule Shoe.

This is a ~7-hour battle 05:00 - ~Noon.
Here is 1 link from~11 to ~1Noon.. ~ 5 Mins

I had control of 1-2 divisions at 1 time or another to test certain things. But generally the Defensive Mode for divs. did help to win this battle on Brigadier level.
This was basically a defensive operation/battle for the player.
This battle was fought with dogged determination. good fun.

I've not played with it recently, but when I did, I found that the defensive AI friendly control is better than the offensive AI friendly control.

I tried it in defensive mode, but only for a very short while, and not in a situation where I could make an evaluation of its effectiveness. Then I abandoned the attempt because I just could not bring myself to trust the "friendly ai". But that was way back around patch 80 something.

In offensive mode? Would the palyer ai just go on a typical charge spree? Wasting soldiers? I do think player ai may have a place as a defensive tool IF, say you wanted to guard a VP with a division, while going on the attack to secure a different VP with the other parts of your corps, thereby reducing the amount of the battlefield requireing your attention, and allowing better focus on the next objective.

yes, agree. The defensive mode is good n takes some of the micro mgmt for the Player, n is reliable...imo...

Ballista hit the nail on the head...with his observations.

For me, Player AI controlled Offensive is an iffy situation. They can/do wander/hunt n do more harm than Good in situations.

I do use hold with offensive tactical movements mostly, I will put a division on AI control, if need be, as a defensive measure to protect/lock down a capped objective. This way they stay put, n engage any threat.
