Question about friendly fire
I watched some playthroughs on youtube and noticed divisions standing in front of each other and still shooting at the enemy. There didn't seem to be any friendly fire at all. I was expecting a lot of casualties after seeing that stupid move.

Not to mention that the enemy AI didnt seem to respond to exposed flanks sometimes. The guy was just pushing divisions into the face of enemy divisions, while exposing his flank and using bullets that only hit enemies somehow. And won O.o

Anyway, my main question, is there friendly fire?

No, no friendly fire. I think it would make the game near unplayable. The brigades are "representative" so while they might overlap etc, you can think of them just being deployed in some formation where the legwork of the officers allow the unit to shoot even though it's "through" the brigade in front of it. There is reduced firepower though for units standing behind others though, so you can't just stack units.
Not sure what you've seen about AI exposed flanks - it usually retreat or turns though a bit later than it perhaps should.

No, there's no friendly fire. Can't image how it would be possible to tie it with current game rules. Units have limited amount of self-control, so they fire automatically (unless you disallow it). With FF, that would mean that every single battle will be won mostly through both sides killing themselves with friendly fire.

There is friendly fire implemented but is not so strict sometimes to allow units better reactions and not stand without doing anything. Friendly fire provides losses to your own soldiers and also filters damage, for example a cannon or brigade will fire at reduced firepower if it is blocked by friendlies in front of them or may not fire at all if completely blocked.

I am not sure. It makes deployment less useful, if the game just lets you move divisions through each other and still take your volleys. Reduced firepower is ok, that just means holding fire if you dont have line of sight. But what I was seeing was full volleys through their own divisions and the division in the back getting casualties from enemy bullets. It was plain weird to see :)

With exposed flanks I meant that the player was turning a division away from the enemy to move towards a different enemy division (he basically weakened his position like that). The enemy AI didn't respond.

Ok, I have to watch again then. It was hard to see with just the numbers going down above the division. Not knowing if it was from enemy bullets or their own. But the player was just so carelessly moving his divisions around each other and seemed totally oblivious to possible friendly fire, making me assume there is no friendly fire.

Thanks for the responses.

But could they? It's entirely possible in certain cases to move away safely from an enemy unit while they are reloading.

It wasnt fast moving cavalry:p The enemy had time to reload and move during that time I am sure. Maybe it was a distance thing, I don't know. But they were in each other's line of sight and I am positive that enemy AI should have seen them turn.
