Outnumbered
Don't get me wrong i love this game, ive onlyplayed one playthrough as the confeds but im starting to get the picture that im always outnumbered, for every brigade of 1500 strong that i have the union has one with an extra 1000 troops, some missions even say that they're outnumbered but in fact its me who is. What do you guys think?

I got the same. I have tried both the confederates and the Union. I currently am fighting a battle with 5 infantry divisions of 1500. The enemy has 10 infantry divisions with 2000 each....

Yeah, some of them sometimes even have 3000 men

It comes down to your generals stats, if you pump all your xp into army orgainization, you can field massive units. If you don't, than you cant

AI will always have 1 army org higher than you. That being said that doesn't mean the unit is better at fighting. Elite 1250 units will kill 2500 ai units when used right ;)

yeah i understand that, ive won battles like that too. However once yu get further on and your units start taking more losses and you cant afford to get them all to full strenght and you take a battle where it is said the enemy are outnumbered and you end up being the one outnumbered.Sometimes even im outnumbered and the enemy are defending and have entrenchments etc and more arty etc.

there are thre words you need to remember COVER COVER COVER. use it, love it, make it yours. When you come across an entrenched unit, hit them with your fodder units untill you see if they are supported by another one, if so, you got to keep hammering them with fire. Or if they are not supported, send 2 maybe 3 fodder units or 2 good units to charge their posistion while another unit keeps on shooting.

I don't particularly like the way this game scales for difficulty with the campaign. It has the same problem elder scrolls oblivion did. It wants to give you a consistent challenge by scaling enemy difficulty as you grow your own success. This means that even if you do really well, it just means you get to fight an even more powerful enemy froces. If I play a campaign I want to feel like I have an impact. If I kill a ton of confederates or conserve my men enough to maintain a powerful army...I want to be a powerful army on the battlefield. I don't want to just end up facing a more powerful enemy force.

For now I think the historical battles are the real game until they adjust the way the campaign works.

I was also thinking that this scaling reminded me of the tragedy that was Oblivion. Scaling works as long as the player doesn't notice the scaling. Once we do we lose interest in improving our character/army.

When you go into the battle and select your corps there are 2 numbers like 10/15. There is also a details screen that shows you what's there. I frankly don't understand the 10/15 relationship. I typically have more units than are selected so some are always left out. I also don't seem to have any choice of which units I would like to play with. So what's the purpose of this whole process???

Dude just ♥♥♥♥ off. You're derailing the topic. What you are saying has nothing to do with his point.

Is it? Or am I giving tips to even the odds? One might be out numbered, but you can out flank and smash them.

As xhh2a layed out in his conf campaign guide, the scaling of the enemy is rather odd. Following his tips on how to compose your army to get the lowest nr. of enemys i was finally able to beat the campaign on normal with much, MUCH less effort. instead of being outnumbered 30k to 45k it was even, or sometimes i had a slight advantage. Pls, if the dev reads this, either explain the scaling mechanics so they are made obvious ( the Your whole army str counts not only the forces that enter the fight is a highly questionable mechanic in my eyes) or change them pls.

What bothers me is whenever i upgrade my troops with better rifles or veterans, ALL of the enemy has them... so its either outfit all of your troops with it or none. Maybe I'm off with that consumption, but it feels to me that as soon as I equip a single unit with better rifles or have 1 or 2 vet regiments I face an entire army of 2-3 star veterans with best guns available.

Also, the amount of high level rifles and canons you can acquire is very low. on the complete campaign i got like maybe 700 of the scnd best sharpshooting rifles for skirmishers and 300 of the best. Same for rifles for stadnart regiments, never was able to outfit a regiment with another rifle then the m145 or its upgraded version. (though they are good rifles and quite into the tech tree, but why have so many guns if you cant get enough to outfit 1k or 2k guys with it)
