Command and Control
Is it important to keep divisions and corp near the assigned generals; or is it just as effective to mix units as needed?

For the passive general traits, they will apply to any brigades in that corp regardless where they are positioned on the battlefield with respect to their division and/or corp's general. For the active aura traits, I believe they apply to any brigades inside the aura regardless of the corp the brigades belong too. Depending on how you construct your divisions, it can make them easier to move them via group commands instead of having to positioned them individually. I rarely use group movement commands and move brigades individually so my brigades tend to end up spread out through the battlefield with different division brigades fighting alongside one another.
Mix units as needed, but try to at least keep divisions together. Infantry brigades can form as a division if the total men is less than too. This is more useful later in battles if you have two brigades that have been badly beaten. You can merge them into a brigade with some life left, but merging has some mechanics that play into how the combined unit acts, such as casualties and firepower. With the proper division set up, one exploit is to give 500 men Spencer rifles and in the other brigades a total of 2,000 men, and then merge them on the battlefietld to create a 2500 man unit with spenders. Will affect end of Battle capture results.

Yea let them end up wherever, I’ve never noticed a huge boost from a corps commanders presence. I just send them towards routing units if any or near a good wooded spot to help with strong vital defenses.

One thing with divisions is if brigades get beat up it’s helpful to merge them together so they don’t dissolve.

I’ve seen one YouTuber claim that splitting up divisions increases the likelihood the division commander will be wounded. I don’t believe this has been validated

I'm pretty sure the division commander resides with the first brigade in the division unless you merge divisions in a brigade. So if the 1st brigade is taking casualties or a merged division is taking causalities, then you have a chance the division commander will be wounded or killed. I split up my divisions all the time and rarely do I have a division commander get killed or wounded. Of course now that I said that, the next time I play I will probably have half my division commanders get killed.

As best I can tell from the decompiled code there is no distance check when determining the chance to wound or kill a division commander or any other officer. Division commander wound checks appear to use losses in all units in the division on a given frame.

I’ve heard this as well, and it seems to make sense. I’ve started reorganizing my divisions so the most experienced troops are the first brigade, and I use them in a reserve “triarii” role

This was something I heard on the discussion board like you. I would go with what pandakraut stated since he has been knee deep in the game code:steamhappy:

Superstition is very important in warfare. That’s why I never attack on a Sunday, and make sure to have plenty of fresh lemons to hand
