Ultimate General - Napoleonic Wars, which historical era next?
What historical period would you like to see in the next Ultimate General once they have finished developing the American Civil War?

Napoleonic Wars divided in 4

(1) War of the First Coalition
(2) Wars of the Vendée
(3) The Egyptian Campaign
(4) and The War of the Second Coalition

So far the most populars,

* Napoleonic Wars
* American Revolutionary War
* World War I
* Crimean War

In order of what I'd like to see:

1 - Napoleonic wars
2 - US Revolution
3 - WW I - I actually think the engine would fit that war well
4 - Crimean War

Yep....same here. Would love to play as prussia in europe or as the english in the colonies.

American Revolution = massive 2000 people battles

lol. pretty funny.

anyway, I DON'T want the AR or Nepoleonic wars because there are many dozens of games in existence. I want more unique, untreaded waters.

Here is my favorite list
1: Napoleonic wars first or second coalition or maybe in 1813 after the Russian invasion
2: Franco-Prussian war of 1870
3: world war 1
4: 30 years war (religious wars)
5: Crimirian war
6: Civil war the western frontier

Can't really see the tactucal value of world war 1 unless it was played in the very beginning (first 3 months) or the very end. Where's the gameplay value of charging 80000 soldiers at a row of barbed wire and machine guns and watch them melt away in no man's land. Any other period but that would be okay specially naploleonic.

i agree with crazzy catt. I think the engine could be modified and go as far back as the mid 1550s (I have a degree in history and it's semi-complicated as to the actual explanation). but could not extend to ww1. WW1 has far too much firepower even in the beginning. at most the colonial wars up until 1900 would work, or an alternative ww1 taking place in 1875. But the engine does what it needs to do and works as it should.

Late WWI tactics are fundamentally alien to UGG's style. Infilteration tactics by small squads of stormtroopers/assault squads armed with submachine guns and mobile light machine guns, abandonment of clustered mass attacks, it's pretty much the trransition period into modern ideas of combat. UGG's engine is ill equipped to handle that.

I think the last major conflicts UGG's model can handle would be the Franco-Prussian War or Russo-Japanese War--even that would be challenge, given that artillery fired so much faster and further than anything in the Civil War or Napoleonic Eras.

In reality, the engine is probably far better equipped to go backwards in time than forwards.

To be honest I would love to see something like a Victoria 2 with this game with a campaign map of Europe spanning the Victorian era or something like that with this game engine. Granted I'm not sure how an active grand campaign would work. Perhaps a turn base like Empire as opposed to real time. Not sure but I would love more Victorian era games. It would be amazing to see a sort of era system implemented.

A napoleonic battlefield with lancers, dragoons, hussars , heavy cavalry, light infantry, line infantry, grenadiers etc. What a game that would be.

I don't think WW1 works with this engine. as the tactics and technology were very different and engagements happened at much longer range than inn the US civil war.

Crimean war, Austro-Prussian, and Franco-Prussian wars have hardly ever featured in any PC wargame as far as I know. The technology, tactics and time period of the civil war are also very similar to these conflicts, so should be easy to make such games.

However the engine can work just fine for earlier conflicts, I would love to see the campaigns of Marlborough, Frederick the Great, and Gustavus Adolphus recreated in the Ultimate General series.

Let we all wait first for Ultimate General Civil War gets finished :)
But :), Napoleonic Wars should be next evolution of this game. It is logical, great year span, big and plenty of battles (no need for minor engagements). Like somebody said, who doesnt want to see French Dragoons and Hussars charging? And to chose between 5 campaigns for example: French, Britain, Russian, Prussian and Austrian.

Regarding WW1 it won't be good for this game engine. That is totally different tactics, long range artillery, no Line fighting, machineguns.

I think Ultimate General: Waterloo would be a good place to start, which would be 2 major battles and a dozen smaller ones? Then the team can either move on to another project or work on Ultimate General: Napoleonic Wars.

I see WWI mentioned, I actually think the engine would do quite well as a high-level tactical WWII game. Companies as maneuver units with the AI sorting them into platoons. Essentially Battalion level. There's some really interesting fighting in the Commonwealth sector of Normandy that would suit.
