Hard to see the Cannon/Rifle Firing Range
Hey guys, love this game. Does anybody else find it hard to see how far the cannons, or rifles for that matter, can shoot. They have little think black lines that blend in with the terrain. Is there a trick to see it? I hope they can update this. Sid Meir's Gettysburg had a highlited area that didn't obscure the terrain.

It would be good if at least when you pick some unit the weapon range will be highlighted. Also for new players it would be very good if artillery will show at what range it firing solid balls, cannister and grapeshot. Could be optional for those who doesnt like idea.

I am ambivalent about the range highlighting as its not personally a problem for me, but I assure you that even veteran players would like the artillery solid/shell/canister shot ranges.

There is merit to having the ranges. Especially on easier level, it would allow you to learn what the ranges actually are, how terrain affects them etc. But on higher levels, they should be absent as in the case of 'minimal HUD' type of setting. Simply put it, as the ultimate badass general, you should judge from the pixels whether your cannon is put in place in an appropriate position for them to use cannister, instead of shell, whether enemy is in range or not, etc.
Ranges are hard to tell. Trying to approximate where the canister and shell shot ranges are for smoothbores is difficult, although easier on defense. Long range guns are easier if you just start with them close enough for canister and just don't move them up, but means the accuracy is reduced as it is father to the target. Focus firing several batteries is almost never worth it, as the target takes too little damage or is close to the egde of the range. Is it wrong to want to position a gun two star battery in a spot where it kills 25 men of an enemy battery per volley? Near impossible, unless you specifically target them with canister from triple vet 24pdr howitzers.

Depends on your tactics really and what battles , Certain battles where you know you will be under heavy pressure from AI charges i always take smoothbore cannons so range indicators arnt really needed as i use the hold fire button till the last minute.
You also need to place smoothbore cannons directly behind veteran bdes that dont break easy thus not exposing them to enemy small arms fire.

Although i do use rifled cannon i normally have 1 battery per corp with the rest being smoothbores and i use them exclusivly as anti battery cannons for troublesome enemy cannon that your infantry just cant get to rule of thumb here is range so the Whitworths and 20Lb parrots are king due to there extreme range.
I try to have 2 artillery brigades per division, one rifled battery and one smoothbore battery. This way each division is self sufficient for most engagements. Smoothbore guns have good canister and and shell shot, so I let them fire as long as ot is not ball, unless it's a howitzer. To avoid casualties, my cannons are atleast a short distance behind brigades for protection against routibg brigades. My rifled guns are farther back, usually grouped and focusing fire on one target to reduce range penalties. But it's hard to tell if the shortest range rifled guns can even hit the target. Firing arcs are just barely visible.

I have red green color deficiency and I can only see the range indicator when it's over certain types of terrain.

I wish the devs would use a three-color combo of lines with white, black, and yellow to show the complete artillery arcs. That would help immensely for early morning/late night engagements, and for players with color-blindness.

I was just playing after the last update and I swear that the firing range of some my brigades was outlined in red, did not seem to show for all of them those that were engaged did not seem to be in red.
