At the moment, this is the closest we'll get. Pretty damn close though, if you ask me as prolific modder. :)

Agree with UGCW need a workshop so we all can make some mods and more battle, more battle in campaign etc..funny is darthis sure know that,he was a mdders for TW in YWC site plus that would keep the game long life with all mods..so would you mind allow this to a workshop, that will make game-labs more popular, yes? :-)

Well?...In these eyes, with this? ( these kind of modding endeavors IS cheating, right?)...You can "count" on this happening to the Nth degree, should this game ever go MP. Jez my 2 cents.

Wouldn't really call this "cheating". Cheating is breaking out Cheat Engine and giving yourself infinite money and manpower along with all the Fayettevills you could ever want.

And I'm pretty sure there would be a resource check to see if all parties in a multiplayer match had the same files. Very basic stuff.

It's ironic that a former modder is making a game which can't be easily modded. I can't make heads or tails of hex editing the files when searching for certain numbers. It seems they are encoded in reverse hex values (0x0320 -> 0x2030). I have a sneaking suspicion it's partially in base64 encoding for some other data.

I take back my critique of XML Ultimate General:Gettysburg used. XML is better than what it's currently in. (Why it's not JSON is beyond me)

Not always the decision of one person to make modding difficult.

Given that Gettysburg was semi-moddable via XML the dev team clearly had to invest time on making it NOT moddable. This is a design decision no matter how one tries to spin it. Things like storing hex values in reverse is also a purposeful obfuscation with no rationale from a programming perspective (it's extra inefficient).

Look at the jump from BF2 to BF3 - BF2 was about as moddable as games come (which spawned Project Reality, which eventaully became a free, standalone game as well as influence Squad), but once they made BF3, they pretty much made modding impossible.
