(Union) Iron Brigade after Antietam not showing in Army?
Hi!

After a glorious victory in Antietam, it shows on the end-screen that I was awarded with the Iron Brigade. But... this brigade doesn't show up in my army anywhere. I even left a spot open (in the fourth division of my third Corps), but it never got there.

Anyone else had this problem?

FYI... this was a battle that was started from a save-game that was made a weeks ago or so.

If you lose the brigade in battle you aren't awarded with it. Iron Brigade comes in a few battles, not just Antietam.

You can't lose what you don't already have. As far as I have seen, the Iron is always awarded with a victory at Antietam. Are your first two corps completely filled with 6 brigades in each division? If so, that may be the cause as it may well be that the Iron is programmed to be inserted into one of the first two corps. First time I've heard of this one. More info might help.

@xhh2a I never got the unit, so I can't have it killed :(

@Ballista I only have Army Organisation 7 and the first two corps were full with 5 brigades in all divisions.
After the battle, I tried to upgrade from Army Organisation 7 to 9 in the hope that maybe the Iron Brigade would show up in the 6th spot, but it didn't :(

Iron Brigade is a unit you have command of in the 1st Battle of Bull Run as well as a few other battles such as Shiloh. The ones where you get units that aren't 'yours'. If you get it killed during that battle then you won't be awarded it.

Army Org has no impact, if you are full you just get aan extra brigade.

@xhh2a, are you saying that you believe there is a particular brigade in a general's army, that after winning at Antietam, then it is transformed into the Iron Brigade? And if that particular brigade is shattered, then you are not awarded the IB?

I have always gotten IB in my victories at Antietam, every time at Antietam. Don't know about other folks.

I guess I'm not following this. Can you explain it more detail please.

The Iron Brigade is awarded regardless of how many units you have in your army. It will usually get placed in the first free slot it can get in the first Corps, otherwise I believe it'll get shoved into the end of the first division. Even if you literally have Army Organization 10 and have a brigade in every slot, the Iron Brigade can appear as a seventh brigade in the first division of your first corps. It may be off the screen - try deploying your first corps in a minor battle as a test to see if you can deploy the Iron Brigade.

Yes. The brigade is actually called Iron Brigade in the battles FYI. This happens with the first battle confed/union as well. If you lose the cav brigade you won't get it post battle. Similarly if you lose art brigade you won't get it post battle.

I have lost the confederate free cav brigade from battle of bull run before and didn't get it as a result. I'm assuming something similar is happening with Iron Brigade, though I personally haven't lost them before myself.

Thanks for the suggestion: I probably couldn't see it because of the window settings, like you said.

But I restarted the whole campaign (less infantry, ALOT more skirmishers & guns), so I can't recheck!

Soldier is right on this. One of your existing infantry brigades does not transform itself into the Iron Brigade. The Iron Brigade is an awarded brigade, independent, and in addition to whatever the infantry brigade count you have after the battle. Example: if you have 28 infantry brigades survive after the battle, the Iron now gives you 29.
