I also think that a WW1 game would work better with squads like Close Combat. In fact Ultimate generals with squads + WW2 would be Close Combat. From the amount of customization between battles and general flow, the 2 games have a lot in common.
But anyway, afaik they have not announced their plans so all we can do right now is wait and get more people to play the game. I sure hope it becomes a series as it has the potential to become the indie TW we crave for.
**Scourge of War looked like it could become that but it became boring because it had no customization, and you were basically just replaying the same set scenarios.
Ultimate General Napoleonic Wars would be great though, really hoping that's the next step (unless UGCW gets some sort of campaign expansion first)! They could make different formations and unit cohesion new features but otherwise it would be pretty close to what the game engine is already doing.
Napoleonic
American War of Independence
7 Years War
Crimean War
(all top 4 are good)
Franco Prussian War (On end of possible games, is a bit of a stretch)
British Empire (Sepoy Rebellion, Africa, etc.)
Spanish Succession?
Pike and Shot?
Crimean War - heavily one sided. Most of the war it was just a siege. Almost 100% of the other small battles were won by allies due to rifles (50% rifles in British Army, 25% in French, less than 10% in Russian)
Franco-Prussian War - pretty heavy technology difference. France had rifles with an effective range of 1200m (most civil war rifles had 350), Prussia had 600. Also French had OP mitrailleuse and Prussia OP modern artillery.
British dealing with rebellions is no really fun IMO.
I think it should be taken the war where both sides were somehow equal with some little cons and pros. Also, the period where technologies fit with line infantry tactics. So yea, the best choice after Civil War is Napoleonic Wars.
Anyway, the devs did not finish this game yet, so it is way to early to talk about next one
