Henry Rifles and Repeaters
Is there a point to stockpiling repeating rifles to equip a few elite brigades with them?

I have never been able to get more than a few hundred. Maybe you can get lucky.

YES! with a caveat . . . .

If you see the word Spencer, buy 'em all using gold or prestige, whatever it takes. Stockpile them over time, because Dartis will hand you a pile of them when the time is right, grab 'em all, they're worth their weight in gold. And when you command the Lighting Brigade, make sure they take heavy, heavy casualties so they leave their weapons behind.

Henry's, yes. To a point. They are hard to stockpile and take a great deal of time and cost and you will never possess them in the same quantity as Spencer rifles and carbines. But in the hands of a 3 star brigade late in the game they breathe fire.

Colts go to the skirmishers.
I've mnaged to acquire about a thousand so far, but I use 2000 soldier brigades, so I haven't purchased enough to use them in combact. Those Spencers doe.

Yeah, the South shall not rise again.

I generally get enough spencer rifles to equip one brigade by the end of the game. And if properly used it will cave in whole flanks rapidly. The key is to never use them just like a regular line infantry division.

how many do they kill?

I dont like repeat rifles for they are not shooting as fast as they are surposed to. A unit equiped with repeat rifles probobly shoot twice fast as a normal M1855 brigade, thats not worth it.

A Farmer unit shot 20-30% slower than a M1842 unit, and dealing only 20% less demange despite its ♥♥♥♥♥ accuracy.

To me it feels like the reapeaters are somehow underperforming when compared to breech loading carbines. I haven't done any proper testing and calculations but Spencer rifles and Colt Model 1855s are killing about half the number of enemies per volley compared to similar or less skilled units armed with Sharps or other low-to-mid-tier carbines.

It might be partly because of me subconsiously expecting too much from the fancy new weapons but I'm almost certain that they do not perform as well as their stats would indicate. I struggle to get k/d ratio of my Spencer and Colt armed skirmishers to the same level that I consistently achieve even with my less experienced Sharps Model 1855 armed dismounted dragoons without too much effort.

My three star unit with 2000 men had a kill/death ration of about 2,500 to 73. Like the other poster said, I was using the unit in the flank because it's not only a three star unit, but the repeaters are best when used against the flank and the rear of the enemy.

You have to get close to get max effect. Spencer range is shorter than late game rifles to be really effective. At half of max range the speed of the volleys crushes moral though.

Hmph, is that so? I had no clue. I know the range on the Spencer is 300 yards (I'm assuming "yards" here rather than meters). Interesting!
