Very much appreciate the UGG-UGCW engine; would like to see it succeed.
Go on! Put your video - where your mouth is.
The whole Civil War revolves around the battle of Gettysburg. You must get that battle right.
If you would play the battle & achieve different results, that testimony would have more weight on this discussion.
In summary:
I attempted to do as little as possible to disturb a very well placed strong position for my Union defenders, while, carefully reinforcing as I watched the movements of Monsieur Picket's division.
I am curious. Try the battle yourself. Tell us what happens.
First of all, sorry for being rude.
I would like to record a video, but my machine specs are not good enough for this. Recording the vid would cause like 10 fps in game for me
However, i just did 'Picket's charge' scenarion on 'brigadier' and made some screenshots:

What i did is just moved reserves where it was needed. As CSA did not really attack me on the left flank i moved it from there. What else i did, well, i fooled around with skirmishers on a left flank against his artillery, later on, i sent 3 full brigades, but that wasnt very effective, so i returned them back later. Was better to save them in reserve all the time.
What maybe you have failed with is your corps disposition at the start, but cant say for sure.
What is the difference between the game scenario and real life - in real life CSA withdrew much sooner, so they saved their army from total annihilation, while in game AI was fighting to the end.
Wish you luck in your next battles
If I was better at taking screenshoots I would post them.
Im in agreement with Soldier . . . maybe Colonel would be better for you until you learned
