The God That Failed
The unbalance is just too much and blocks the enjoyment of the "game." Playing the -Pickets Charge- Battle is a case in point. As the Union under Brigadier - Even - difficulty, the Cornfeds charge right through the stone fenced and "Hold" your position divisions, and artillery fire, as if they have bullet proof vests.

Oh! My brave Onion troops hold the first charge, or so, and then fold and run. I have the Generals in the area giving their moral support and several Brigades from the southern extremities brought up to reinforce the center - all to no avail.

Now! I know that I am doing something wrong, and that the Fanbois have the ability to whip the entire Cornfed Army with just 15 Union cooks using ladles and pans, while playing on the highest difficulties, naked, and, blindfolded. Yes, I am highly ashamed.

In my defense: I will point out that I interfered minimally in this battle (as planned), and, with an ounce of balance on an even setting, the Picket Division should have been butchered, as happened historically.

This game is Unbalanced. Additionally, cavalry that has been Routed, retreats though your (our-the winner's) line, reconstitutes, and attacks in devastating manner from the rear. The Forts - Oh! the Forts! The Unbalance manifests itself in battle after battle, as well as within the Campaign.

There is still much fun to be had in UGCV, it has much promise. I found more balance in UGG, and in Sid Meier's Gettysburg & Anteitam (although that is perhaps comparing apples and eggs).

We (me & my evil alter ego), bear the developers no animus. We will uninstall and withdraw from the fray, until we hear that some of these issues have been fixed (of necessity, the issue of BALANCE), so that the 'GAME' may be enjoyed. Where else may we kill thousands, legally?

God Bless America!

Restore the Republic!

There are really some balance flaws that would be nice to tweak, but Pickets charge is super easy as Union (specially of brigadier difficulty), so i just aasume that maybe strategy games is not for you and you should find something more casual. Otherways, id recommend you a little bit of l2p instead of rage.

Not that I do not believe you. Not that I believe you to be a Fanboi. But, as you have the air of a skilled computer whiz, might you post a video of your "super easy" handling of Pickets charge on brigadier difficulty - for us all to see? I, we, might learn (or not), something from this.

Very much appreciate the UGG-UGCW engine; would like to see it succeed.

Go on! Put your video - where your mouth is.

Would further note that the distance in the Battle scenario - between Picket's division and the Union defenders is much too close. Picket's soldiers had to march approximately one mile to reach the Union lines at Gettysburg. I wonder if the shorter distance, in the simulated battle, between the Confederate attackers and the Union lines, also limits the casualties the Union artillery is able to inflict on their attackers, and thereby distorts the historic results of the battle?

The whole Civil War revolves around the battle of Gettysburg. You must get that battle right.

So you did virtually nothing in terms of organizing the battle and moving troops around to counter the AI and expected to win hands down by watching passively at the battle? In what other game does that work in? So your entire balance issue is because you didn't get the result you did by doing nothing as you planned. Try actually playing the scenario, move troops around, replace weakened troops with fresh etc.

Read my remarks. I did move reinforcements to the center & placed them on hold - just behind those in the fortifications. I also placed my leading Generals in close proximity so as to help with morale. The Cornfeds, nevertheless, rather easily walked through my defenses.

If you would play the battle & achieve different results, that testimony would have more weight on this discussion.

In summary:

I attempted to do as little as possible to disturb a very well placed strong position for my Union defenders, while, carefully reinforcing as I watched the movements of Monsieur Picket's division.

I am curious. Try the battle yourself. Tell us what happens.

First of all, sorry for being rude.

I would like to record a video, but my machine specs are not good enough for this. Recording the vid would cause like 10 fps in game for me

However, i just did 'Picket's charge' scenarion on 'brigadier' and made some screenshots:

What i did is just moved reserves where it was needed. As CSA did not really attack me on the left flank i moved it from there. What else i did, well, i fooled around with skirmishers on a left flank against his artillery, later on, i sent 3 full brigades, but that wasnt very effective, so i returned them back later. Was better to save them in reserve all the time.

What maybe you have failed with is your corps disposition at the start, but cant say for sure.

What is the difference between the game scenario and real life - in real life CSA withdrew much sooner, so they saved their army from total annihilation, while in game AI was fighting to the end.

Wish you luck in your next battles

If I'm gonna be honest, you sound a bit stuck up because you think you're good yet you failed here. Maybe Brigadier General difficulty is too hard for you. Colonel might be better.

If you play first 2 days well you won't even get to do a Picketts charge. You can win on second day. Actually I was surprised how well that went for me. I'm talking pre-dynamic version of the game.

For the record, I played it. It was easy to repulse Pickett's charge. The part that hurt was the assult on Cemetary Hill . . . I took it back but that was harder then Pickett's charge.

If I was better at taking screenshoots I would post them.

Im in agreement with Soldier . . . maybe Colonel would be better for you until you learned
