North vs South, what base differences are there?
At the beginning of the campaign, are there any advantages and disadvantages between the Union and the Confederacy? In History, the Confederacy had much better cavalry and superior commanders but the Union had the material advantage and higher quality firearms and in more numbers, etc.

Are any of these factors present in UG?

Those factors are present.

CSA

has better recruits: You only need to add a colonel to command a rookie unit to level it up
has access to better melee cavalry equipment

US
Gets larger cash and recruit rewards
Has more weapons available in general

The CSA get a wider variety of weapons, many of them better than any standard counterparts and generally gets better recruits and seems to get more exp gain per battle based on my experience

The US gets more new recruits, and more money but generally fewer weapons than CSA because they face smaller enemy armies compared to CSA and so get fewer captured weapons and have a much narrower weapon selection
