Naval Battles
Are there any naval battles in this game? If not, at least one naval battle would make a perfect addition to this great game...

Basically this game is to fight many land battles in a set, linear order. In short, this is not Total War where you can do strategical decisions.

I realize that but it would of been nice to include a naval battle or at least a naval bombardment of Vicksburg....Just an observation...

Gunboats appear in a few maps, but as of right now no there are no naval battles.

Bluntly, major naval engagements weren't really a "thing" in the ACW. The Confederates lacked the capability to field a large fleet- and a battle like, say, Roanoke Island would not be particularly enjoyable since one side would simply steamroll.

The most interesting naval battles were 1v1 (Monitor vs Merrimac). There were very few fleet vs. fleet battles where tactics mattered. Want to sit around and watch your one ship shoot the other?

Adding a naval assault function might be fun since army-navy tactics for the Union were commonplace. However, the results were often lop-sided and Union players would probably hate it.

its more tactical than you think tokiedian, terrain and cover play a huge part, knowing when to fire a volley before charging, its all about tactics and strategy, so don't talk utter crap

+1

There are some that would be interesting, but they were kind of novelty battles. Like the Monitor vs. the Whatever. Would be interesting, but really not fit this game.

He was talking about strategy, not tactics. You're right that this game is tactical (positioning artillery, using terrain, staying in cover, when to charge, etc.), but he was talking about strategy. That's one thing about Gettysburg that I liked but which isn't in Ultimate General: Civil War. In Gettysburg, when the battle has what we might call a "cut scene" or a break, you choose the strategy. Like at the end of the first day, you can choose to hold or withdraw.

Some older games had things like you choosing which battles you would fight - I think some more strategy element would be cool, but idk how they would incorporate it, and it looks like a pipedream - even moreso than getting multiplayer.

You have a good point and it surely did involve a lot of boats on the River(s). I think the issues are that the stgrategy and tactics of Vicksburg occurred over a long period of time and over a vast territory. Even Grant tried several different approaches. It could be a game all by itself!

But, hey, I would like to see it too!

This game doesnt even simulate troops movements for players. Why would it have naval battles?

what about navy battles? not all battles were fought on the land. there was several battles with the births of the iron clads and steam engines. it would be a nice addition to the game play. I do enjoy playing both Age of Sail and the Civil War.

Doubt they would create DLC for this game. More likely they would create a whole new game similar to the Total War series. Hard to say what the future is for this developer and the Ultimate franchise since they were bought out.
