Yeah I know, waiting for it to come out of early acces, but I got Gettysburg though. Still, I just wanted to know if there are more options for civil war games out there besides the Ultimate general series.

Scourge of War series is good, Although over a decade old. There hasn't been a good ACW game in a good while, hence why i'm so heartbroken that this game isnt adding up to par, so far.
My all time favorite ACW titles is Talonsofts Battleground Series Matrix sells it I think as
John Tillers Civil War its turn based I liked the routing mechanics and historical order of battles
It is old 32 bit and I had trouble running it on my new 64 bit system so it is no longer on my drive
but I really liked the game series.

I don't know if it has compatibility issues now, but Civil War Generals 2 was (until this game) in my mind the best Civil War game ever made. It uses hexes and is turn based, but it's still a really good game.

In the original game, Civil War Generals, there were I think ten battles, but in Civl War Generals 2 they went crazy with the number of battles they made. I think it was literally over a hundred battles they made, and you could play all different kinds of campaign modes. You could similarly change the equipment of your troops, change commanders (though in that game changing commanders never made sense), etc. Highly recommend it. An oldy but, apart from this game, I'd still say the best civil war game ever made.
If you're ok with abstraction, I'd also recommendFort Sumter to Appomattox. I think it's a little over two decades old now, but it is a good one if you're okay with abstraction.

Civil War 2 is a pretty good civil war strategy game.
Civil War Generals 2 hands down.
There's a distinct lack of good games in the last decade- a lot of the best ACW titles like CWG or Sid Meier's are 15+ years old.

TalonSoft's old Battleground series had several ACW titles- Gettysburg being the most famous. They also had Chickamauga and Antietam I believe. I want to say there was a Bull Run as well.

@Probabaly Tim - lol I think I still have that game somewhere. Should see if I can convince it to run on a 64bit OS.

Civil War 2 is good. I'd love a combination of that game and this one but it is unrrealistic as the requirements to input all the ground of the US even at that time would be quite large. I would have enjoyed playing a campaign (free form, sandbox TW style) where the battles occur where you force them. Again, unrealistic, but certainly something I'd have been excited for.

Civil War Generals was great for its time and I played it a lot as a young teen. Today though, this is one of the better ACW games out despite the flaws.
I would prefer if they were rts games and not hex based, I need to see the combat nad just stare at screens.
