Best Cannon?
What is the best cannon. I'm looking for something to use mostly medium to short raange and great for hitting targets in cover...

Whats the best for a longer range, one? That can do decent damage to units dug in as well. Need to balance this out

24pdr Howitzer is hands-down the best short to medium range howitzer. This thing is so good you can even get 30 kills with a full battery at max range using round shot against an infantry brigade with a veteran crew. It also turns infantry into a red mist with shell shot, and canister blows lanes in their lines.

Long to medium range is the 3-Inch Ordnance Rifle. Not as much range or damage as the 10pdr Parrott, but it's got good reload and is cheaper. Shell shot also appears to be better since the last patch.

If you want rifled guns, the 10lb Tredegar for the CSA is very nice (albeit only available in pretty limited numbers). Those and the ordinance rifles have the best stat balance, and the ordinance rifles are available in pretty good numbers as well. Those two types are my go-to rifled cannon.

For smoothbores, unless you have a crew good enough to properly leverage the big guns the 12lb Napoleon is where it's at. If you have a good gun crew, 24lb howitzers will obliterate infantry.

10lb Tredegar is the best.

24 pd howie is the best imo. It's a smoothbore, so it doesn't need an experienced crew to get good kills, just has to be at the right range. The only real downside (not counting it's lack of long range, because they all kindof lack that) is availability and price. Buy them out every round.

Ordinance rifle is number two in my book, and while it is best at medium and long range as soldier said, it's really not horrible at close range, either. For the price and available especially, it's a great all-rounder. Also, I used to wait until a crew had decent gunnery skill before I gave them these, but now I find this gun trains up their skills pretty quick and isn't as horrible as you'd think with a fresh crew.

I find the rest to be pretty lackluster for their own reasons. Tredgar is a decent rifled gun as mentioned, but availability even for csa is low.

For a third gun, I fill with 6pd field guns. It's the cheapest gun, but it gets pretty decent short-mid range performance for what it is.
