Anyone knows civil war general 1 and 2 ?.
I wondered if anyone who is currently playing this game has even played Sierra's Civil war general 1 and/or 2 ?.

I played and still got them both and i liked them very much, i wanna know if this game is anything like those games.

So if anyone can compare them plz let me know, thanks.

There is one that is more a board game , and another that is completely enjoyable especially If you like to do your own fights and not let AI do it for you .

A mix of both could be really interesting .

I loved Civil War Generals II back in the day. Still play it from time to time. Equiping units and buying weapons was very similar to UGCW IMO.

There are many videos online. A selection enjoyed by the game's team can be accesed on their web site.

I loved those games. CWG2 is my all time favorite game. This is just as good. It is not turn based or hex's like CWG though it is real time for the battles but the camp screen is fairly similar but better. More similar to the old Sid Meyer's Antietam and Gettysburg as opposed to Sierra's. I would highly recomend this game though for any CW buff. Another steam game Civil War II is also good and is more of a grand US map strategy turn based version but the downside is you don't get to control the battles in that one.

I played them both back in the day. If you loved the features of CWG, with the unit management layer etc, you will definitely love this game too. The tactical layer takes a little getting used to, so I suggest:
1. Using the lowest speed option until you get the hang of things (left most speed control button)
2. Taking a look at a full battle before you start a campaign. You'll probably lose the battle, but it will give you a good idea of where the campaign is heading - the battles get bigger as you go along.
3. Reading the guides here about how to manage your army. You need to right size and quality to have any chance of winning the later battles.

Omfg, Robert E Lee Civil War General on Windows?

That game... I think, was the very first PC game, aside from Doom that I played.

It was an incredible game. That being said, it is nothing like this game being that it was turn based. However it does use the same type of upgrade system, same guns, stats, etc.

Just buy this game, seriously. You will love it.

I also grew up with CWG, and I religiously reinstalled CWG2 everytime I did a PC or Windows upgrade until a few years ago when I finally just couldn't get workarounds to work anymore. It made me very sad.

A couple of years ago the madness came upon me again, and I even considered digging out an ancient Dell WinXP laptop and replacing the battery just so I could play CWG2. But by then I realized I was a big boy with responsibilities, and I had no time for such silliness. The madness passed, and I went on with my life.

My next trip off the back of the wagon came when when I played Gettysburg a couple years back. I loved it. But it wasn't quite enough. I dreamed of a true successor in spirit to CWG.

UGCW is it. No regrets.

Same swisniewski, my current laptop is the first one I haven't got it to work on. Has to do with the wing32.dll driver not being picked up for me. Can't seem to put it in the right folder I guess.

If you liked CWG2, you'll probably like this. Similar emphasis on maneuver.

I still got an working windows XP pc, that i will never throw away. Because i can still play CWG on it.........

xD.
