But if you're just in it for the fun, opportunities for counter-attacking and beating the crap out of the Rebs are ample as well.
I am playing as the CSA, opportunities for day 1 or day 2 victory?
Day one you can win by capturing cemetery hill.
Day two you attack the round tops and can won by capturing either enemy objective.
Picketts Charge scenario on day 3 is pretty easy to get the south cemetery Ridge objective.
Plenty of options to win depending on your personal objectives for the battle (max experience, max weapon drop, minimal casualties taken, picketts Charge win, complete destruction if enemy, etc.)
I struck quick and took the 3 VPs within the first phase, then moved up more men to hold the grounds. Dispatching the Iron Brigade was cheap since they were in 5 well depleted regiments that came up to my 3,000 men on Seminary Ridge. 2 volleys with each regiment and they deserted. My 3rd Corps struck South and along with my 2nd Corps swept them back to Cemetary HIll and ran into my first real fight of the battle. I made 2 groups of 4 Brigades together and struck 2 separate brigades. This punched holes in their lines on Cemetary Hill allowing me to flood the rear.
I just took Cemetary Hill but didn't like it too much when the Union sent a lone brigade to attack the other points. I split 4 off to guard them. I then came down on the left over troops like a sledgehammer after securing Cemetary Hill. I lost 8,000 men to their almost 17,000 men. Came away with about 5500 Harper's Ferry 1855s along with a shopping list of different weapons. 3 of 7 Union corps were nearly destroyed.
I was expecting a drag out fight over 2-3 days and 20,000-25,000+ casualties. On to Chickamauga.
