Patch 1.0.8 (No Input Fixed)

Hey Everyone,

Apologizes for the delay on this quick update!
For those who don't know, I still work a fulltime job and haven't had much time to get through all your feedback this week.

The goods news though is:

Control input mapping not working on start should be fixed
Chargeshot resetting when looking down should be fixed

I have a bigger update in the works, but wanted to get this out in the meantime.

Early Feedback + QOL suggestions

First of all congrats on the release! I'm still pretty early on in the game (seen about 4 areas so far) but there are some pain points that really have dampened the experience so far. The game has a lot of potential with fun gun mechanics, environments, music, and dialogue so hoping some of this will help. Top 2 are the biggest issues. +++ Wall jump really needs some forgiveness IMO, akin to coyote time. This has been really frustrating in some platforming sections. Hey everyone!

Another patch is here, and this one is a bigger one.

Thanks so much to everyone leaving positive reviews and sharing feedback. I’ve been reading through everything!

Full patch notes:

Improved keyboard input mapping
Allowed unassigned keys

This patch took a little longer than expected because rebuilding the keyboard input system became a much bigger task than planned. The new system should make controls more flexible and accessible, letting you play the way that feels best.

Content polish and reworks

Price-drop Dynasty! 🎉 (More Updates on the Way!)

Hey, Everyone!

I wanted to give a quick update on Dewdrop Dynasty and where things are headed.

First, I’ve decided to lower the price from $19.99 to $11.99.

My goal has always been to make Dewdrop Dynasty polished, fun, and a great value. I know there are still bugs to fix and plenty of feedback to work through, but I’d rather make the game more affordable while I continue improving it.

(If you bought the game at the previous price, Steam will automatically refund you the difference. You don’t need to do anything!)

I also just want to say thank you. I’ve been really happy seeing people play, leave nice reviews, report the many bugs, and share their feedback.

My focus over the next couple of weeks is to:

Get the game more stable (Still a lot of bugs to work through)
Add better Controller Support & Cloud Saves
Work on implementing your feedback
Adding more content to the game

One last note: We’re currently working with Steam to make sure the new $11.99 price is showing correctly for everyone. A few people have reported still being charged the old $19.99 price, so please hang tight while we get that sorted out!

Price.

I really don't understand why companies do this when they release a game. One of the first thoughts should be: What price will generate the most sales? More sales = More interest = More players = More money. Would it be nice if people would buy it up at $19.99? Yeah. But why take that risk when you could have released it at $9.99 or something around there and sold way more copies. Just my 2 cents....

Honestly, I really did want to like this game, especially since the creator and development logs is what got me into game dev, but there is so much with this game that just doesn't work. I do like the art-style of the game, is it very nice and well planned. The mod grid is a clever way to allow customization with constraints. The ability to gain height from shooting downwards is nice too, but it does get underplayed heavily as shoot as you unlock anything else like the flamethrower, cast-iron claws, or wall jump. Abilities like the Giant's Belt and Timepiece aren't used nearly as much, as they are used for only a few puzzles. The flitter flies are an interesting way to add re-exploring, but feel tedious and they are mostly in hard-to-reach spots. There is parkour, but it gets annoying real quick with the amount of enemies that can knock you off course for no reason and those sections are often really hard and unforgiving. The Teletulips are a nice way for fast-travel, but they aren't enough to make them efficient. Exploration doesn't give many cool rewards or secrets besides tickets or the flitterflies. The worldmap is massive, but is also empty and lacks NPCs that add worldbuilding. I have over 10 hours on this game, and I still haven't beaten it, the amount of backtracking and walking around I have to do to get anywhere is the majority of that time. Most of the enemies just do not die, and the bosses are real sponges. And most of the time, getting to a major boss doesn't give anything except a dewdrop, which aren't relevant to gameplay except for the final boss. The movement is also kinda off, I can't crawl or move freely with abilities like the flamethrower, which limits the exploration. I do like the game, but for the content given thus, I wouldn't recommend. If the world map had more content and more areas were connected, I would recommend. Overall, I will give is a 5/10.

Snow area door to the right of the pipe

Hello When entering the snowy area, via the pipe in the pipe area, to the right of the pipe is a blocked door with the button to open it behind it. i explored all the snowy area but i couldn't find a way behind the door. does anybody know how to get there? also i feel like i did most of the content in the game, i miss like some items from the shops and maybe 1 fly or 2 and yet the i am at 45% of the game. i feel like i am missing a big area in the middle of the map right above the snow area but i have no...

Played entirely on Steam Deck/Steam Machine with no issues apart from missing arrow symbols when reading signs.
Dewdrop Dynasty is a cute metroidvania, with clean pixel art, and a great soundtrack.
Poe, the main character, is snappy and responsive, and the "gun pogo" is a fun way to approach platforming. That being said, it's a shame this main selling point is quickly overshadowed by the upgrades you find along the way (dash, flamethrower, and sometimes wall jump ).

Exploration is a mixed bag: I enjoyed the map layout and its intricacies, but more often than not I met dead ends or places that could definitely house a secret or a reward.
Speaking of the map, at the time of writing this review, rooms are fully revealed as soon as you enter them, and there's a limited amount of markers you can place (why?), which lead me to abandon the firefly hunt because I found some but couldn't remember where.
There is a fast travel system but it's not that convenient because you teleport only from specific places to a hub area, and back.
The dev is working on updates so hopefully these issues can be ironed out.

Combat is simple but enjoyable. It fits the more minimalistic style of the game.
There were only a few boss encounters that I didn't particularly like the giant stone t-rex head can be damaged only after a specific attack and can be cheesed by standing in a corner, the UFO has way too much hp, and the twin wolves arena opens after you killed one of them so you can run past the other.

Overall I liked the game and can recommend it because the issues can be easily fixed with a patch or two
