Guts is a Loser... (story line)

If you saw the original Berserk anime series (1997). Casca never loved Guts. She only loved Griffith from the beginning. But when she did not get Griffith in her life and realized that he is out of her reach, she started leaning towards Guts as a substitute.

......and Guts accepted her. What a loser he is, doesn't even have a slightest dignity.

And yet, when Griffith threw himself at Caska, she rejected him because she was already with Guts. If you've ever met a real woman, that's not how they react when their love interest shows desire to get their wang wet, previous commitments be damned.

The only loser here was Griffith, who just lost everything because he couldn't get over the fact that Guts didn't want to bang him, fortunately he got somewhat better after the Eclipse, but it took him losing everything and killing all his friends.

Casca was in love with the 'idea' of Griffith, some deified hero whom she could adore and cherish, but Griffith doesn't care about anyone but himself which is so evident. Casca and Guts grew to like each other because they share many personality traits and the same life goals, they both just want to be accepted and loved and live in peace, not that they would ever tell anyone these private thoughts. It's a shame all of these things went right over your head, I would recommend the manga but if the 1997 show confused you then I would say probably don't bother, it's not for kids especially considering what happened to Guts as a child.....

Let us not forget that Guts did cause Griffith to have mental breakdown by kicking his #$% and leaving the group. Guts also slept a female demon (she was planning to kill guts) and kill her at the same time which many people would consider Guts to be manly and stud by this action. Guts even got Schierke and Farnese to be attracted to him which they are indeed jealous of Casca despite Guts probably unaware about their feeling.

It's a love triangle. Guts wants Casca, Casca wants Griffith, Griffith wants Guts.

(interestingly it's the same as Fight Club. Tyler wants Marla, Marla wants Narrator, Narrator wants Tyler).

People all seeking approval from each other in a co-dependent spiral. All it takes is one person to reciprocate to break the chain, but it happens too late. Hence, drama.

It's exactly that. Seeing Guts as a ''loser'' is a very limited perspective.

Well, it may be (partially) true, but still Caska and Guts are a good couple, and Guts deserved a bit of happiness after living too many years without even knowing what love means.

Really? Thats funny. She liked griffith because he saved her and tought her to be strong. She thought guts was a brainless warrior until they got to know each other. She said she knew that her and griffith could never be together because all he wants is his dream. Griffith wasn't capable of loving anyone except maybe Guts. Casca and guts didn't really have a dream, they just knew how to fight and survive. They then realized that fighting for griffith wasn't the only thing they should be living for as they spent time together. Read the manga...
