im not too sure why people like berserk movies
i just got done watching the part 1 movie of berserk and im not getting into this thing, at first people told me its full of monsters and stuff kinda like dark souls but it wasnt really that much like it

i dislike the chractors and the animation, the 3d anime just looks awful and i did sort of liked the show till i saw that flamboyant white haired asian guy giving his terrible gay speachs. im not so sure why its conidered one of the best anime, im not a anime fan but i did like attack of the titan, truth be told thats the only anime i watch tbh

The flamboyant guy with the "terrible gay speeches" is a misleading depiction of someone capable of ripping your ass in two. Nothing is what it seems in the world of Berserk so don't be silly, just read the manga.

The movies are only about the Golden Age, it gets really dark only after that part. You better read the manga if that's what you want.

Read the manga and stop crying

It's not considered one of the best anime but one of the best manga.

I have watched all 3 movies...the 3rd movie is by far the best because it starts to turn dark during that movie, I'd almost say skip to the 3rd but you really need the backstory to know wth is going on. The production is best in the 3rd movie as well. I could watch the 3rd again, the first 2 movies I will never watch again.

There's your first problem. You expected a Dark Souls anime out of a long-running series, which only delves into the Supernatural/Fantasy either 100 chapters in or after over 4 hours of animation. Before that you got *gasp* character development, world building - even stuff like politics!

You don't know any of the characters yet, as you only watched a third of an already reasonably cut down Arc. If you don't like the animation, you're always free to watch the original TV series instead.

"I want you.. Gattsu."

I dunno. To me it sounds as if you didn't give the whole thing a fair chance, but instead got a show that is too slow for your "1 episode of exposition and we're good to go" anime alike Attack on Titan, coupled with wanting Dark Souls out of it all, which imo isn't a fair comparison between the two works to begin with.

Watch the 90's anime instead of the newer movies, much deeper character development just like the manga... however the manga is by far best. The movies have alot of stuff cut out of the story.

Surprisingly enough...People have their own tastes and preferences...crazy right?
Joking aside, i personally don't like it purely for the 3d. 2D animation, it's fantastic, i have no beefs with it. Guts looks a bit weird and i know Griffiths is meant to look quite girly but it's even more so in the movies.

The 3D urks me beyond belief, it's lazy and looks like ♥♥♥♥ in almost any anime that implements it into the visuals unless they realize Jittery 3D looks like ass.

The movie focus alot on character development especially when you already know most of the characters are gone after the eclipse. The movie hasn't reach any of the dark story arc.

Have you tried Claymore? I think the anime is consistent, just a few episode is enough to decide if you want to continue watching til the end.

Watch the '97 anime or read the manga. The best character development is there. You are t giving it a chance.

To be honest, the manga starts with Guts being the Black Swordsman killing Apostels and only then goes into telling the story of how Guts came to be where he is.

In my opinion they should have started the game in that same vein.

Look at the older anime series, the first episode of that series is what you're looking for and resembles that Dark Souls story you're looking for.

Everything after that and the movies is sort of an origin stories that shows what happened and how the world got as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as it did.

Also, the new anime series is also big on gore and violence, be sure to check that out too. It's a continuation of the movies tho.

The new series.... I have the old anime and the 3 new movies which is a move like version of the old anime... I heard there are newer series that are a follow up to the movies... but are they translated yet and available on dvd/download?

There're available on crunchyroll:

Some people dislike it, but I say just ignore them the new series is excellent. It's much closer to the manga than the original anime series in tone. But it lacks somewhat in terms of story. The animation is hit and miss, some scenes look odd, but others are absolutely fantastic.
