You don't know any of the characters yet, as you only watched a third of an already reasonably cut down Arc. If you don't like the animation, you're always free to watch the original TV series instead.
"I want you.. Gattsu."
I dunno. To me it sounds as if you didn't give the whole thing a fair chance, but instead got a show that is too slow for your "1 episode of exposition and we're good to go" anime alike Attack on Titan, coupled with wanting Dark Souls out of it all, which imo isn't a fair comparison between the two works to begin with.
Joking aside, i personally don't like it purely for the 3d. 2D animation, it's fantastic, i have no beefs with it. Guts looks a bit weird and i know Griffiths is meant to look quite girly but it's even more so in the movies.
The 3D urks me beyond belief, it's lazy and looks like ♥♥♥♥ in almost any anime that implements it into the visuals unless they realize Jittery 3D looks like ass.
Have you tried Claymore? I think the anime is consistent, just a few episode is enough to decide if you want to continue watching til the end.
To be honest, the manga starts with Guts being the Black Swordsman killing Apostels and only then goes into telling the story of how Guts came to be where he is.
In my opinion they should have started the game in that same vein.
Everything after that and the movies is sort of an origin stories that shows what happened and how the world got as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as it did.

Some people dislike it, but I say just ignore them the new series is excellent. It's much closer to the manga than the original anime series in tone. But it lacks somewhat in terms of story. The animation is hit and miss, some scenes look odd, but others are absolutely fantastic.
