The censorship is REAL
Let me start off by saying I know why its as censored as it is but holys**t I just got to the end of the Golden Arc (The Eclipse) and had I not see/read the anime/manga I would not have known what happended. It's that bad, big cuts and lots of black on the screen.

It's mainly for Berserk fans who already know the series (or at least the anime/movies), and people who like Warriors games, but don't know the series very well.

I think it does it's job heavily abridging the series well; if you want an uncut story, you read.
Simple. I didn't buy the game to get a recap on the first 3 arcs.

Eh, its pretty annoying when the first apostle is just cowering when Guts is interrogating him. In the anime/manga, he was nothing more than a severed head after the battle.

Whats really stupid is when you are in frenzy mode you can clearly see that you are severing people in half in. Yet, they chose hide the gore in the cutscenes... kind of contradictory no?

Kind of takes all the punch out of those moments as well.

The censorship is because they didn't want an adults only rating in Japan. The international release at least has some added human dismemberment (in-game only, not cutscenes).

Japanese rating systems are absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They themselves made Berserk, manga, anime, everything. Yet when it comes to games they have to censor it? Same with the AoT game.

How is it that anime ratings are fine but their game ratings are obnoxious?

We do the same here in America. There's a lot more that you can get away with in film that the ESRB will not allow in video games without slapping them with the dreaded "AO" rating witch would guarantee them not being sold in stores, Or on Steam for that matter.

Anime / Cinema and Gaming are two -completely- different industries. lol
Very very different rules in the censorship department.

Ironically, the western version is the "Uncensored" version, the censored version is JP.
It's only the manga/anime that is truly "true to heart", the games arent. Or they wouldn't make any money in the west :S

Even both of the anime series' have been censored/altered. The closest to the manga have been the Golden Age movies.

I was refering to the versions of the games, not the anime series >:P
Alot of people think the western version is censored but this is wrong, its only the JP version that is censored, western version isn't. BUT if you were to compare the games to the manga/anime then yes you can consider the games censored. It all depends on which perspective you stand at.

On one hand I can see why it's upsetting to have the game censored, and it's not just because "Need to see boobies" but unlike the Anime *the one in 1990s* it dosen't quite give you the same emotinal impact it could. Sure you still feel it but it's not as hard hitting as the anime. For example, When Guts and crew are getting attacked by demons for the first time there is a scene where Guts finds Casca getting r-aped by Griffith. Guts being held back by a demon bitting on his arm. out of desperation (and pure unyelding rage) he cuts off part of his arm and getting himself free to try and save her. In the game this is kind of shown but the r-ape part is just vary heavily suggested rather than shown where in the anime it is shown and gives a more emotinal impact, as well as a far more satifying feeling when you think Guts is about to save her only to be dog piled by the other demons and that feeling of hope being crushed along with it. On the other hand with how everything in the media being set up to fit a naravitve by taking stuff out of context or something rather, they possably don't want to add more fule to a still burning fire when it comes to video games since apparently there hasn't been a new form of entetament to pick on yet. So in away are trying to cover there bases where they can for a 18+ game.

As for how Censorship works between here and Japan. I am not even going to try and explain that, you can rearch that stuff on your own if you really want to know, but yeah. Not going to touch on that.
