Any way you look at it though, the only way to get the complete story is the manga. There is so much of the series that just does not exist in anime form.
Then again i understand that is not politically correct for anime in the 2017 to show Guts slaying monsters that turn into piles of small kids, all dismembered, entrails fliying around and all, even while being a superb subarc...
if you can handle gutz sword sounding like a frying pan everytime it hits something then watch the recent beserk ( from last year i think ).
to be fair he did ask "anime" if he sand "manga" then i would say yeah read that first.
not to mention not everyone wants to "read" something before "watching" something. even though i do agree reading it is for the most part is generally better BUT just like with movies/tv shows some people rather watch it instead of reading said source material of it
Also the newest one is nice too if you don't mind the 3D they use on characters and creatures. It's kinda funny as everyone has major hate for the style even though A LOT of animes use the same style lol
So much rapey, much wow.
A lot of people praise the older TV anime but it has super limited animation and inconsistencies with the manga. The newer TV series is a continuation of the movies, but is the animation is really wonky at times and it once again omits content that was in the manga.
Manga (Full Uncensorship) > Anime (Has minor Censorship)
2. Anime (1995)
If you decide to just watch the anime, you might end up reading the manga afterwards as it continues the story. At least that's the way it happened to me.
