Food Scarcity
Ive looked over other gamers comments on how Permadeath needs to be more difficult, which I dont get. After the patch last night, I have died about 6 times in a row because the first island I keep visiting, I spend all 4-5 min trying to find food and it's nowhere to be found! After the 7th time, I found one cherry on the tree, then I had enough time to locate the New Demon Portal but with how much time it takes, I literally cannot survive a single day anymore.

Food needs to be revamped up or need to grow back somehow in the next day but being an exploring game, you don't have enough time to explore in Permadeath mode. I'm more worried about finding food then killing enemies, which it should be the other way around.

This is a bug. It will be fixed in tonight's build.

In the meantime, the other modes have the normal food spawn rates.

Absolutely. I am spending more time looking for food than actually playing the game itself which is a real let down really.

I had this game in my wishlist for bit now, and now that I got it I wish I never bought it. I guess I'll have to make a video letting people know of this, and suggest that they stay away from the game until something is done.

What a shame, I was really excited. I should have known though, I have been burned by more developers in the last two years that I just thought I would give one more developer a chance, and here I am once again feeling like I have been boned. Oh well, that is my problem, but I won't be buying anything until it's finished.

Seriously though, how in the name could a developer play this game, and think to themseleves that the food settings are at a good setting?

This makes me wonder if they even play what they develop.

Food actually is everywhere.

The trick is not so much finding it, but instead learning to spot it. When you just start out in the game, you're not going to know what the different food types really look like. Juicy Roots, or those reed things, for instance, tend to blend in a bit. After a bit of time with the game though you wont have any trouble spotting them.

Seriously, on any island, food is EVERYWHERE. That's probably why you can only carry two of each type at once, because otherwise it'd be WAY too easy to hoard.

And note, I'm saying that I never have any trouble finding something to eat, but I'll also say I dont spend much time specifically searching for food. Unless I'm after those blasted cherries (which are actually easy as heck to spot once you're near one, because they glow). I spend the vast majority of my time exploring the island for things like ores and gems, and fighting monsters. I just grab food items along the way, not really "searching" for them. I'm not playing at a super crazy pace either (like, not finding lots of food because of zooming around with great speed, I take my time so I dont miss assorted shiny items and so I dont get ambushed). This isnt the sort of game where you have to spend too much time searching for basic survival items. It really is just about learning to actually spot them in the first place. Once you do, you wont have to actually search hardly at all anymore... you'll just spot it as you do other things. And each food item lasts for plenty of time overall to give lots of benefit.

To be honest, the whole mechanic seems perfectly balanced to me. I think I've taken damage from the hunger state MAYBE 4 times? Only about 10-20 damage each time. And that was typically due to the food effect just happening to run out while I was in a fight (so I needed to finish the fight before taking the time to eat something else, and thus took hunger damage). As for actually running out of food, I've never had it happen. Not even once.

Seriously, just learn to be observant, which is probably the main skill that the game demands of you. I cant even emphasize enough the part where food is everywhere.

Perhaps the visibility of the food needs to be addressed? Make each type a little easier to spot, to reduce frustration for new players? Have them stand out from the surrounding landscape more? And certain things that count as food dont even look like things you can pick up. Mainly the moss. That specific one, I do think needs to be addressed. It looks like a decoration, like the grass. It took me forever to figure out it was an item I could grab. Though I dont really use it for food, I use that one for it's crafting recipe. Same with the underwater plant.
thank you so much for this feedback guys. I think these are really good points. I have added food visibility to the issues the dev team will be addressing in the new year.

I am grateful for the continued feedback We will polish this up for you,

Jane - Keystone Games

Current version of game is a rollback before it was ruined by Keystone. I played 5 hours my first play thru. Made it to the second island on my 4th try. Had no issues with food or permadeath. This version, you can craft extra lives and food is not easy but also not impossible to find. Seems each island has enough food to complete the island. Just be aware your attacks can destroy food if you are trigger happy.
