Really sad that only a few people played this game in the years it's been on Steam. It's actually surprisingly good and a lot of fun. Nice level design with hidden items and shortcuts. You have to replay each level many times to find the right paths and gather the items and I've had fun in each of my attempts so far.
Definitely worth the low price.
The last two levels of world 1 have only ever been finished by me and another person which was quite shocking to see.
So please, if you read this, give the game a try and beat my scores. This game deserves to be played a lot more.
I still am far from completing. There are 3 worlds with 15 levels and one bonus level each.
A total of 48 levels to Drive, Crash and Repeat.
Difficulty varies from tolerable to pure insanity.
Not suggested for completionists since this will become a frustrating task.

"DCR Drive.Crash.Repeat" by Tarboosh Games is a game that lives up to its name in every sense of the words.


Graphics are 8-bit style with the option of using fullscreen, windowed and if you want, scan lines on or not.
Those are the only real options you are given for graphics options.

The graphics remind me of another car game from the 1980's called "Spy Hunter".
There are some animated objects such as birds, oh, and the occasional car trying to slam into you.

No complaints about the graphics as they serve their purpose and just about any computer should be able to run this.


Audio is also reminiscent of 1980's 8-bit chiptune era with funky style music playing and appropriate clunky sounding crash and car effects.
Get used to the crash sound, as you will be hearing it a lot.


The simplistic driving game is played from a top-down perspective and the player is given very simple controls to get their vehicle to navigate the streets.
Left and Right to steer and Spacebar to boost.
Scattered throughout the level are various hidden objects and bonuses.
To Win, get to the finish line without hitting anything.
The faster your time, the better.

Sounds simple right?
The slightest bump into an object will cause the car to completely crash and you have to restart from the beginning of the level.
I almost forgot, you also have NO BRAKES!
Once you start, you either finish the level or you crash.

This is almost a throw-your-controller-at-the-TV type game, except for one thing, it only has keyboard support at the time of review.
So maybe a throw-your-keyboard-at-the-screen type game?


A lot of skill needed to be good with the simple to learn, hard to master mentality.

If you are competitive or someone who has to get every object or master every world/track, this game can keep you busy for a while.
However, if you are the type to play a level once and move on, it could be short.

3 Different "worlds" which make up 48 total levels with seasonal themes (Halloween, etc) and different times of day to give some uniqueness to the gameplay.
Not having controller support and a spartan options menu limit this score somewhat.

For the style/era the game is going for, it's pretty spot on, although it won't win any awards for the looks or audio, it does what it needs to.

The starting asking price might seem a touch high for the content, but I think if they released more modes or some sort of workshop support for the game, it could easily be worth the $8.99 release price.

If you have the patience to practice, this game has some replayability with alternate ways to get to the finish line, a time leaderboard to compete with others, and objects to collect.
If you are the type of person to get frustrated easily, then this game may not be for you.

Being a huge fan of the first Steam game released by this developer and publisher Tarboosh games, I was excited when the developer reached out and offered me a key for this new challenging driving game.

After playing this new game for a bit and crashing more times than I care to admit.. I must confess that I just don't find this DCR: Drive.Crash.Repeat nearly as much fun to play as the original "Escape: Close Call" that launched back in March of 2016. Escape Close Call recieved a whopping 96% score from me back then and was easily one of my highest rated indie diamonds for that year. With DCR: Drive.Crash.Repeat, the name certainly holds true. You will crash and crash a LOT especially if you start trying to set one of the top three fastest time scores on Steam for each level. There is only boost and controls to steer your car as you attempt to cross the finish line on each level as quickly as possible, but one crash and it's back to the starting line for you.

This game definitely shows that a ton of work and time was put into creating each level and that is where this game shines the most. Tons of levels and three different progressively harder "worlds" full of their own levels to complete.

While I understand this game might have taken longer to create than the first release by Tarboosh with Escape Close Call, the ending result is just a game that in my mind isn't nearly as addictive or as fun. Add in the higher price tag as well ($8.99 vs $6.99 for the former game) and you end up with a less than amazing first impressions score from myself...

My Value Score: 24 out of 40 ($8.99 is just too much in my opinion that is half as much fun as the first Tarboosh game)
My Fun Score: 21 out of 30 (This game is fun, and you'll find yourself playing over and over and over.. for a few minutes)
My Controls & Bugs Score: 20 out of 20 (No complaints here, the game runs flawlessly and controls very fluidly)
My Graphics & Sound Score: 7 out of 10 (Visually stimulating enough but the music helps this score out)

My First Impressions Score: 72% An average score that could be improved with more things to smash (perhaps zombies) and a lower price point. Still it's recommended if you like hardcore and punishing driving games that you can easily pick up and play whenever you have a few minutes to spare.

My advice to the developer to increase the score above: Simply drop the price to under $5 USD. I advise a $4.99 price tag for a game that in my mind isn't worth as much as your previously released "Escape: Close Call". With a $4.99 price tag on this game, yes you'll make less per sale, but you'll likely sell ten times as many copies, meaning much more profit in the end. ;-) With a $4.99 price tag on this, my Value score would jump from a 24 out of 40 up to a 35 out of 40 and make my overall score an impressive 83% (vs the 72% I currently give this game). Just a suggestion. Good luck!

I got a beta key some time ago. But later this games didn't appear when I tried to find it via store page.
Now I found that it was finally released and thanks to developers my beta key wasn't revoked and I was able to play.

I can say that it's a really hardcore game. I tried to pass levels dozens of times. And there always more than one way to finish.
Visual style is nice and simple. With many details it doesn't look like some kind of trash games.

So if you're ready to strain yourself, this game is for you.
