Evidence of the supernatural - Calvin's cast and Barbara's story

Calvin died September 23, 1961. In his story we see he has a cast on his left leg as he swings, holding onto the chains supporting the seat to the branch above.


Barbara's story and death takes place on October 31, 1960, almost 11 months before Calvin's death. As she enters the basement workshop (after the pool table) you see directly ahead of her on the bench is part of the family totem still being constructed. It shows a seated figure, grasping chains with each hand and a cast on its left leg, exactly like Calvin. You can get a better look at the totem pole in Gus's story when he runs the kite along it, with Barbara's figure with a crutch on top of the house, and the Calvin figure on top of her.

It seems unlikely that Calvin would have worn a cast for 11 months even in the 60s. This seems evidence that the maker of the family totem pole had some sort of premonition of Calvin's fate.

I just noticed the comic book which relates the fate of Barbara is dated October 1961, and Calvin died in September 1961. So it is possible the totem piece was incorporated into the comic book art as well after his death. So it still leaves mystic or mundane explanations open.
