Why?
Because if the curse actually exists, Edith would've died long before returning to the house. Even her mother, Dawn, said it herself; her family and kids are dead because of Edie's stories.
What should blow your mind more is: why was Edie the longest living of the entire family? She managed to live into her 90s while everyone else couldn't even reach their 40s.
Maybe she never believed in any of the stories. Maybe believing in them causes the curse to be real.
Or maybe her story was actually all fictional, as are all the other stories in the house. Maybe she wrote them all herself? Perhaps she's the cause of the curse this whole time. Dawn did say it was Edie's stories that killer her family.
If the times are all correct, then Edie would've been 85+ years old when Edith Jr. was born. She seemed to be mostly bed-ridden for many of those years, requiring lots of meds and an oxygen tank to survive. She also used a walker. How did an 85+ year old woman with a walker go exploring down at the sea bed in the middle of the night?
Another tidbit that I'm not sure many others have noticed ....but Edie "disappears" the morning after her only surviving family leaves and no one returns until Edith does during her time in game (she mentions this a few times with stuff like the locked attic/etc,) but........the year of her death is listed on her door. There would be no one there to do such a thing unless Edie did it herself after her family left, but it seems kind of weird that someone would remember to do that/etc. Unless the story she tells you about the fog/old house in the sea is a premonition of her 'death'
There was no curse or any supernatural elements at play, just recklessness, poor parenting, and mental illness. We don't need to know what Edie wrote because it wasn't real, just another one of her fantasies.
