Edie's Book and Story
Is there anybody that has any idea on what the story in edie's book was working towards. Is there a way to find out? I need to know...

I was kind of hoping that the kid would enter the mansion and find edie's book and that it would turn the entire story upside down.... But alas, the ending was something you guess after the first flashback... Don't get me wrong, it was still amazing, the journey was great, but the ending left me a little unsatisfied... I needed that bow that ties it all up into a neat little package...

first let me throw my opinion onto the pile, i thought the design of the game was excellent, and enjoyed most of it greatly, but the grandma story near the end left me toats confused. it seems to me the overall mystery is set up by asking what is strange about the finches? what is the curse? and what did your mother want you to discover when she sent you back with the key? These questions were driving me through the game the entire time, and it seems like the grandma is about to explain when suddenly you swim through a birth canal and are a boy now? I get that you are the child of the character you have been playing as, but what happened to her? and what about the main plot?

Edie's story near the end of the game should never have been told in the first place.

You can't finish it.

Why?

Because if the curse actually exists, Edith would've died long before returning to the house. Even her mother, Dawn, said it herself; her family and kids are dead because of Edie's stories.

What should blow your mind more is: why was Edie the longest living of the entire family? She managed to live into her 90s while everyone else couldn't even reach their 40s.

Maybe she never believed in any of the stories. Maybe believing in them causes the curse to be real.

Or maybe her story was actually all fictional, as are all the other stories in the house. Maybe she wrote them all herself? Perhaps she's the cause of the curse this whole time. Dawn did say it was Edie's stories that killer her family.

If the times are all correct, then Edie would've been 85+ years old when Edith Jr. was born. She seemed to be mostly bed-ridden for many of those years, requiring lots of meds and an oxygen tank to survive. She also used a walker. How did an 85+ year old woman with a walker go exploring down at the sea bed in the middle of the night?

Edie said the night of the super low tide that allowed her to walk to the original house was on the night that Edith was born. She would have been around 82. Not sure if she can walk unassisted at that age, tho the story memory indicated that she did.

So, how does Edie die? THey send someone from the care home around, but she was gone in the morning. But it's not something we get evidence of, Edith is not without blame.

there is no mention of when she went down to the saebed, she could have been 40 for all we know.

True, I had another playthough , it's like she looks older in the seabed scene, but that scene plays out much earlier, possibly while Edith is very young?

Another tidbit that I'm not sure many others have noticed ....but Edie "disappears" the morning after her only surviving family leaves and no one returns until Edith does during her time in game (she mentions this a few times with stuff like the locked attic/etc,) but........the year of her death is listed on her door. There would be no one there to do such a thing unless Edie did it herself after her family left, but it seems kind of weird that someone would remember to do that/etc. Unless the story she tells you about the fog/old house in the sea is a premonition of her 'death'

The game leaves it up to player interpretation, so no, there's no solid answer to anything, but mine is this.

There was no curse or any supernatural elements at play, just recklessness, poor parenting, and mental illness. We don't need to know what Edie wrote because it wasn't real, just another one of her fantasies.

She said it happened on the day Edith Junior was born. So 1999.

I searched to see if the rest of that story was revealed anywhere. I'm glad it wasn't. As with the main story, we learned many of the most important things but not everything. We fill in the blanks. My theory of what Edie wrote is that she realized the old house was similar to the new house, only going back another hundred years. Patterns repeat. As for Edie's fate, the story says she'd mixed her medicine and alcohol. Almost all her family was within those two homes. I can imagine her swimming out to the old house to see it one final time. The beauty of the story not saying for certain is we can each imagine it our own way.

Thank you for actually playing the game.
