If the whale happens to land face down, you then have to screw around trying to get him right side up so you can use him as a trampoline. Just keep using the frog to do it until you flip it around.
This scene definitely slows the game down, plus after playing it a couple of times, this is the one scene that makes it a bit confusing as to who the baby's parents were. It's a cool scene, but by the time you play it you're both confused as to what you have to do to finish it, and confused as to who exactly are the aunts, the uncles, the cousins, and the ex-wives.
It becomes clear soon after when you can once again see the family tree but if the whole game is a 10/10, this scene is probably a 8 out of 10.
Once you get the whale, that becomes a platform to bounce off of. It does take trial and error.
