Is it depressing?
How... well, tragic/depressing/etc is the game? What is the ending like?(I'm 100% fine with spoilers, and would actually prefer them if there is some sad twist).

It will certainly get you in the feels.

Eh, probably not my thing then, to be honest.

Extremely...and some visuals involving animals I didn't wish to see.

When I got to the segment with Milton and glimpsed it's an allusion for Monroe from Unfinished Swan I was crushed at all. It was the one of the saddest game experiences in a while. But also a good one!!!

I... Yeah. I mean, I appreciate the work that went in to it, the visuals, and the fact that it's set in the Puget Sound, but I think I'll skip on this game myself. I don't handle depressing stuff well. >///<

It's not depressing. Not in the way some movies are depressing. It has sad moments but mostly its incredibly charming and constantly putting a huge smile on my face. It so creative, interesting, and wonderful how you experience things in this game. Unless your a fragile little snowflake.. you shouldn't find this game overly depressing. It like a Neil Gaiman novel and creative like the movie Coraline. Even though your experiencing people dying, they are all, so far anyway.. Happy Deaths. Which is another rare thing about the game. It turns a dark tale into something beautiful and wonderous. It's very unusual.

Could you give some examples? Like, is it just scores of folks dying in hospitals/of old age? That sounds... kind of boring, to be honest.
Plus I just am not very fond of the steroetypical "accepts their own mortality and utterly peacefully accepts death" kind of death. Always seems way too bland.

None of the characters dies slowly of old age... They all meet their end in some kind of accident, tragedy, etc.

SPOILERS...

For example, one of the children dreams of being an astronaut, and is playing on a swing, you control them as they swing higher and higher, dreaming of going all the way around on the swing, (with the swing on an old tree branch, near a drop), gradually getting higher and further and further before tragedy strikes. Generally, when the accidents / deaths occur, the game artfully cuts away or shows the death in some symbolic manner, sometimes even in a joyful way (for example, one character drowns, but then you get to play as them swimming beneath the ocean as you hear the family commenting on how full of happiness the character always seemed to be...).

Each of the deaths are done interestingly, and often take you by surprise, and it's a game about loss, heartache, and happiness. It's a bit of a rollercoaster, but it's well handled, and definitely not dull.

Those two scenes are just breathtakingly beautiful.

It's tragic, but in a sweet, melancholic way. Really, nothing is ever depressing - things may be sad, but being depressed is a choice, to an extent, and not a foregone reaction.

It isn't misery porn, if that's what you're asking. Death isn't dwelled on and I didn't come away from the game feeling depressed. It's just an interesting, albeit morbid story. Kinda like a series of unfortunate events in a way.

Well ,you got the hubris,it must take to yank a soul out of nonexistence and into this meat and to force a life into this thresher. And as for my daughter, she, uh, she spared me the sin of being a father.
finished this game made me remembered these lines from TD, won't say it's depressing just kind of complex bittersweet feels...

I didn't find it depressing in the least, moving certainly, but not depressing. It is story telling at its best so will touch you.
