Slow-Motion Bug, Is There A Fix?
As soon as I'm introduced to lockpicking and going to steal my first car, I get a messege that I'm wanted by the police and the game starts to run in ultra slow motion.

I have finished the game on my old PC just fine and understand that when you are wanted it will go slow motion for a couple seconds, but in my case it is never ending and not allowing me to play the game.

i7 3770k
GTX Titan
16GB Corsair Vengeance
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Any help is much appreciated!

you can change the VSync setting while the game is running, just change away from whatever setting you have it on and then change back, should work shortly after
Guys FIXED, u only need Frame limiter on 99FPS. U cant set CPU 0 or do some with VSYNC or set 60Hz. Just set 144HZ and Gsync and set FPS to 99..

I go play happy XMAS :)
I have the same problem. Only mine is worse. My game goes into ultra slow motion upon stealing the car then it never goes back to normal. I restart the mission and its still in slow motion inside guiseppies. For some reason this glitch didn't happen on my piece of sh*t laptop at all low settings. I fixed it by simply changing all my settings to the lowest possible. I don't know why the hell this works but whatever this is a hilariously broken glitch.
Go to your steam/mafia2 directory and look for _CommonRedist / PhysX and reinstall the physx driver. It has been updated since release and may fix various issues.
Task manager -> Find Mafia2.exe, it may be in sevral tabs of task manager, all does not have same rightclick options.. what you want to rightclick is: cpu something (mine is in another language).. De-select all but one cpu thread and go back into the game and it will pass in a few seconds!
Directly when its gone, you can re-select all cpus to the game!

Sup I just found a 100% working fix, its a similar bug to GTA IVs last mission. I think it has to do with the 60+fps. It also work in another mission in the game.

When lockpicking, pause the game and follow these steps:

Go into Task Manager >> Processes >> Right click on Mafia 2 >> Set Affinity >> Uncheck all UCs but 1 (UC 0 in my case) >> Enjoy.

Now go back in Affinity and check every single UC to go back to normal

In this video (for GTA IV) its the exact same steps, just choose Mafia 2 process instead.

This worked for me, too! Thanks a ton, dude!

i have same problem and works for me!
Pretty old thread but I find that if I change the video settings to a different preset during the slow motion it ends it after about 10 seconds when I go back to the gameplay.

From my view still best solotion set 99 FPS on nVidiainspector. Works realy good and u dont loose FPS like if set only one CPU core...

I have this problem too, only when i playing without V-Sync. Turn it on - After a while the problem will be gone, then turn it off again. Working here.
He explained it right there, you HAVE to have vsync on for that scene otherwise the game freaks out.
if that was just the case im sure most people woulda figured it out since i always have like 300+ fps in this game there is no reason not to have v-sync on so yeah i call bs
Well - everything above 80fps (for me) was causing this issue, so I forced 4k (on 1080p monitor -.-) via nvidia control panel, and enabled v-sync locking game to 60fps, since v-sync on 144fps didn't make any change.
Twix původně napsal:
It is a problem caused by your monitor. If you have one over 60hz you will get this bug. Change it to 60hz or maybe limit the fps of mafia to 60fps. This should work too i think (in skyrim/fallout4 this works) if you have an nvidia card just use invidia inspector, nice tool. amd/radeon i don't know, maybe afterburner.
so no reason to play the game then if it is going to look shoppy
This bug is documented here[pcgamingwiki.com]. I confirmed fix of the bug by using RivaTuner Statistics Server and capping the FPS to 100. There are instructions for other ways to cap the fps. For me it was best to use RivaTuner since it's bundled with MSI Afterburner which I was already using.
