What happened to Joe?

*Spoiler alert if you didnt play the game to the end*

In the ending cutscene of the game, where you kill Falcone, Joe helped you killing him.

Afterwards, when he is killed a cutscene starts.

Vito gets in one car, Joe in another.

The car with Joe inside drives to another direction, while Vito still goes down the mainstreet.

Then Leo says: ''Sorry kid, but he wasn't part of the deal.''

Now who cant remember this, Vito worked for all 2 or 3 families in Empire Bay, killed Derek, Steve, Clemente etc.

They wanted to kill him too, but Leo gave him a chance to survive and told him to kill Falcone.

What happened to Joe? Did they kill him?

Well, if you look at Vito's face when it ends, you can clearly see he won't let that go and he will fight for Joe. Plus, Joe won't die like this. He's always been a fighter.

To me, all of the Mafia 3 information is a damn shame. I would've preferred it if Joe was killed. I liked the guy, which is why the ending of Mafia II (at least how I read it) was bittersweet, emphasis on the bitter, in that while you lived despite your mistakes, Joe died as a result of his and yours. being taken away and shot is what *should''ve* happened imo.

Agreed. Was so disappointed when I found out during my playthrough of 3. It just struck me as purely fan catering service. Sure, he [Vito] and Joe will likely never reunite again which is pretty sad but letting him live? Meh. Even though I liked him too, he indeed should've died at the end of 2. Now the ending doesn't feel as awful anymore as it did when I first completed the game.

He didn't die there. After they drove out of sight Joe figured what was up and killed the driver, causing the car to crash. He escaped relativly unscathed and went on to open up several gentlemen clubs. He married some bimbo and had seven kids. He died in 1998 of old age.

Uh, how can it be a retcom if it's a sequel? Retcon only happens in prequels.

Yes it can, however in this case it didn't. I already knew Joe has survived his fate at the end of Mafia II, but I didn't where he was until I played Mafia III.
