Game Crashes in Garage selecting cars.
I have an issue as the title suggests, and after a lot of googling I can't find an answer, I'm hoping someone here may know. Here's a detail of the issue:

When I open Joe's Garage to select a car, the game crashes to my desktop after I start moving left/right to change/select a car.

Here is my system info if it helps:
- Windows 8.1 Pro
- Nvidia/EVGA 6GB 780 GTX
- i7-3770k
- using Xbox 360 controller
- Max settings on everything except Apex Physx, which is set to medium
- 1920x1080 @ 100 hz with Nvidia G-Sync Enabled (Same result on my other 60hz non g-sync monitor)

I tried it on my older PC too, a Phenom II, with an Nvidia 660 2GB and Windows 7, the game also has the garage crashing issue. Does anyone know of a reason for this, or a fix?

Does it crash when you scroll to a specific car? Can you remove cars from the garage without it crashing?

Does the game crash at any other time?

I had a nasty bug with the Jimmy's Vendetta DLC where the game would crash to desktop whenever I went to save my game. Ultimately the save game file was corrupted. Had to start a new game. This time I can save the game and it doesn't crash.

No, it's random. sometimes the first switch of a car, somethime I flip through half of them, or all of them; I never know when it will happen.

So far, it's the only time the game crashes. I havet ried reinstalling, new game saves, and 2 different PC's - it always happens for me.

I have it too. Always in car selecting mode, in any of the garages, and very random. Wouldn't be so bad if only the game would allow you to force saves. Selecting cars is a bit like playing Russian Roulette now. Besides that, the game runs very stable (some tearing when VSync is off, but that's all).

My guess is that it has something to do with cycling through the cars too fast. They all have to load their little animations (VROOAAR VROOM) and I think it is there that the game crashes. I can't back this up with proof however. Try cycling through the list a little slower and see if that reduces the number of crashes.

because necroing threads is cool: have it too. played it in 2010 on my laptop, finished main campaign, no problem, now i started playing it on my pc (because i wanna finish the dlcs that i bought ages ago...) and when i switch (fast) through the cars in the garage it keeps randomly crashing.

I don't mind my threads getting necroed. People have similar issues at different times, it happens. Sorry It's happening to you to. I never found a fix.

last time i played i didn't have the problem. maybe setting compatibility mode to win 7 (using win10) was the solution. might've just been luck though

Heyyy, found a solution. You have to run in compatibility mode(win7) and run as administrator. Solved for me. Hope this will help you. Little bit late, but better late than never. :*

Wow, I've been wanting to play this to get amped up for Mafia III - Good Timing. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

I have the same problem on Win10x64. As I have AMD card I don't have physx enabled but I will definitively try running with compatibility and as admin. Thanks in advance guys

Hey, so I know this thread is ANCIENT, but I was just jumping into classic M2 after being disappointed by the "definitive" edition that just came out. Ran into the same crashing in the garage problem and stumbled onto this thread, and I can confirm that setting the launcher to run as admin, and setting compatibility to WIN 7 fixed the issue for me so far. Just figured I'd post that here in case anyone else finds this.

Same Here. I've been considering reinstalling the original and giving it another go. The new release is a flat out insult to Mafia II fans.

while it's very off-topic. what's the problem with the remaster?
Beavis May 21, 2020 @ 2:30pm
The remaster isn't really a remaster at all. It does fix a few game breaking bugs, but it runs horribly. Graphics glitches and issues everywhere. Cloth Physics stripped from the game, heads levitating unattached to their bodies, crashes, poor frame pacing, etc.

It should say something when people are seeking out the original version to get a better experience. Remaster is a huge letdown in it's current state.

The thing is... it will probably stay that way given the track record with piss poor Mafia PC ports. EVERY Mafia game has had issues on PC at launch, many of which are never fixed or updated.

They should've waited and done a proper remaster of Mafia 2, where they not only improve the graphics, but add gameplay features as well like what they're doing with Mafia 1.

Not sure why they thought they had to remaster all 3 games at the same time.
