Windows 10 problem (even with compatibility mode)

Anyone play the game on windows 10? I tried a pirated copy and it doesn't work. I want to buy the game but I'm afraid it won't work and I'll just waste my money

Hello,
It's possible to play the game in windows 10 (i have x64 family )
Currently i have a problem if i choose full screen, alt tab result in black screen, but the game work fine, if i do not switch tab.

Maybe you have to download the latest physx software from nvidia site ?

I tryed this game with : catalyst 15.7, 15.7.1 15.9 and 15.9.1
With a full install of win 10.
The black screen is not corrected by trying all those drivers,
But for me this game work in windows 10.

Mabe you could try to look at your save folder, in "youruser"/appdata/local/2kgames/Mafiall/videocfg.cfg

you can create it or modify it with something like : 0 0 1920 1080 1 0 0 0 (in first line)

And by the way it's maybe your game copy version the problem.
Just buy it when it's cheap with all the dlc included in collector while it's on sale, best thing to do in your case ;)

Windows 10 is a difficult little boy, it refuse to play with some games, and cry just for a stupid reason.
it's possible to feed it with what they call "windows update patches",
But this little boy, is still young, not like his big brother windows 7.

I mean on whatever games you will spend money on it, you will maybe have problemw with windows 10, or maybe not.

Too soon, to tell it's a game that is not working (mafia ll in your case) or just win 10, drivers, settings ...

It's not a reason to not buy games, especially if you can find a good sale ;)

Ok i agree with you it is nonsense, i just read again what i wrote.

I can't choose the right words to explain my experience with windows 10.
It's more stable updates after updates, microsoft is working on it, i'm not here for bashing.

I tryed to mean something like:
Game behaviour in windows 10 is different from win 7 sp1,
Maybe because 10 is still a young os with drivers and software that need to mature.

I was thinking about Bully scholarship, with an admin account, uac disabled just to test, 15.7 , 15.8 15.9 15.9.1 catalyst, none of those drivers fix the "application is not responding"
Same for compatibility mode .

Mafia2 again, alt tab i get a black screen, on all of those catalyst version.

When i had the upgraded 10 i tryed it with catalyst 10.7 and 10.7.1, it was the same problem.
Win 7 compatibility mode didn't help either.

On a list of 300+ games most of them was working fine in 7, and launching them in compatibility mode, or with uac disabled, in 10 is not fixings some problems.

I checked different forum, games work for a group a people in 10, while the second group will not be able to play them.

I'm not sure it's a pebkak on my own, it's still possible :(


The first thing i did after installing win 10:
windows update
Install of catalyst, realtek drivers for 10, intel network driver, chipset inf from intel again.
Then install games and play them on steam.

I didn't tryed other software, so win 10 was bare naked.
I installed the legacy physx drivers and new one, i installed market place, Rockstar social club, punk buster... but that's all.
Just kaspersky internet security 2016.

I never install gaming evolved or raptr.
I use the default graphic settings,
Not sure i did an error somewhere ?

And when i installed a full version of 10 after format my sshd, i had the mind to only use it for Steam and Origin.

I don't use other apps.
I browse sometime with firefox, but that's all.

Everything else i do it on a kubuntu laptop.
I don't wanna reinstall windows 10 again just to debug it,

I was having trouble in games, and i thought it needed a full install to fix it.
after 7 to 10 upgrade, i did 2 full repair.

So i did a full install from dvd with win 10 default formated partition sheme. (didn't touch anything else)

I agree every games runing in windows 7 should work in 10, if you say it,

But i have the same behaviour with crashs or alt tab black screen:

I5 4670k integrated graphic+ z87-plus, xms3 1600mhz cas8.
I then tryed with hd5570 graphic card,
And finally hd 7870.

With different set of drivers on amd side.
I tryed with and without Realtek integrated sound.
I tryed with three different mouse and two different keyboards.

An exemple:
Train simulator 2016 run perfect for me in windows 10 and ran nice in windows 7,
But other players, have problems runing it.

I will stop speacking too much, it will be more and more confusing if i continue to say things.

Now my point, i repeat again windows 10 is new, and i'm happy i don't have the problems other users have, like startup looping, update not installing,
BSOD and other bad things...

I'm happy my pepkak, is letting me play bf4, BF3, Return to castle wolfenstein, old blood, L.A. Noire, MaxPayne3, Syberia Syberia 2...

it's too difficult to speack about OS experience, i should have never start this topic anyway :)

Ok i come back to windows 10 and mafia2 + alt+tab

I found i can use alt tab, then right click while holding keys, then select move this app to another desktop.

Mafia2 is not part of desktop 1 anymore, and i can use again ctrl shift and escape, and right click on mafia2.exe, and kill the process.

It's an improvment, no need to disconnect my session anymore.

Yeah, it refuses to play Securom games for good reason.
