What do you mean by "still can't catch anything"? When you have your bag go through a school, no fish enter? It seems like trawling still needs balancing as it's hit or miss on whether you catch anything at all. Sometimes there won't be anything and i'll be catching lots, other times i'll be goign through a dark red school and wont catch anything.

Their most recent patch said there's been a new trawling tutorial, but I'm not able to redo it, so I don't know if there's good information.

Seems like trawling is still "set it to the proper depth and afk for 30 minutes" since it's almost impossible to turn into a school before you pass it, even at a slow speed. (unless the tutorial explains it better than it did previously, which is possible)

Heck on the Hermes my doors got to the right depth but the nets float higher than the doors so it makes it impossible to catch anything

I have run straight forward for 1 hour now.... trawl depth is 70m.
Been running through a few schools of fish yeah BUT NOT A SINGLE ♥♥♥♥♥♥ FISH CATCHED.....

im starting to give up

for both boats, make sure the door depth is below the limits...50m for luna, 150 for hermes. for now, disregard all other sensors except the door depth, line length, and sonar.
IF you are in a school of fish AND at the correct door depth and no fish are filling up the boat, stop engines. Spool the lines out or in and see if you pick up a few fish that way.

IF you are in a huge school of fish, try raising and lowering the doors.0 kts. Full out or full in, but dont haul the net. You should show a few fish in the net on the catch sensors.

As of now, spooling the doors and depth control is wonky at best. For the Luna, try 110, 160, 220m LINE LENGTH, speed 3kts +/- 0.5. Hermes, I just spool out all the cables, speed 0.6kts and AFK for about 2 hours. Luna can steer a bit, but make sure the door distance doesnt close.
Hermes, steering at such a slow speed is pointless. Watch Youtube or Facebook on another monitor or Iphone to pass the time.

Luna trawling. As you see fish on your sonar sensor, you will notice they are grouped at a certain depth mostly with a few schools straggling above or below. Set your doors where they are just below the TOP arch of the fish school, watch speed very closely. The doors have to stay wide open, not narrow, AND they have to remain within the top 1/8th of the fish school. Dont chase fish around the 1/4 edge of the sonar screen. The doors will narrow too much. Most will swim to the center of the net anyhow. Depending on sea state, around 3kts is best.

Not realistic or using the tools and sensors correctly, but will catch fish. If you are in a school and not picking up a single fish, either the door depth is bugged out, or you are above the MOVING forward door depth. Stop boat, haul net, reset to previous length and THEN move the throttle forward to previous speed setting. Sometimes doors will 'pop' around, as if you hit a sea mine or whale or sunken ship :D If they resettle to the previous state, can troll on. If they float or are off the sonar or in a wonky position, gotta haul them up and reset them.

Hope this helps ;)

EDIT: After testing a bit, seems the doors do not have enough 'mass' or weight. They should function as downriggers (line length + speed) and also planar boards (speed only).

The downrigger function controls depth by means of how far the doors are down and also how fast your going.

The planar function of the doors is simply the angle to keep them spread apart. Strictly speed related only. Turning speeds up one door and slows the other down.

Seems the doors dont have enough weight to keep them down. However by game code, the net remains the same regardless of door position. But with the way the doors behave now in the 1.1.1 patch AND the hardcoded door depth limit, its very hard for most players to catch fish. There is too much fiddling with the throttle for minute speed control and constant spooling of the door cables. This is not realistic and is putting most players off of trawling now.

Remove the door limits? Add more door weight? I know the real life trolling answers but have no clue in game physics.

Yeah more door weight would help i guess but there seems to be alot more going on in the mechanics of trawling that needs looking at. I agree that the door limits werent needed at all, especially without solving problems relating to actually fishing at those depths. When i used to play the numbers i used for line length to be most effective arent possible to use anymore and thats where the best hit ratio on fish was...Spread is identical of fish yet new limits are imposed. Did someone request these limits or something? I think its a small band-aid soloution to make it seem more realistic, as best previous technique appeared to be just lower to like 50m line length and repeat over and over. Theres always a school of fish inline when u start the trawl...

Agree. I feel as if I'm dredging. The Luna is more tuned it seems. The net seems to follow the doors more in regard to height and clearance. Once the Hermes doors are down pretty far, the net shows the same height and clearance and only changes with speed.

BTW devs, any possibility of getting say, inser\delete and page up\page down bound to door line length control? Or maybe the 7-1 9-3 Numpad keys? Would make life simpler in the future :)

When trawling, I use the "spider" display, which shows a couple variables around a pentagon, i set my doors to around 100-120m(although I adjust this to manage door depth and opening markers, adjust speed to ~5kph (or when the marker for speed is just inside the pentagon (it'll turn red if you're too fast), then you'll see symmetry is low, raise one door about 15-20m higher than the other, you'll see the symmetry raise up until the spider opens up. if symmetry, speed and depth are good, you should have no problem going through a shoal and grabbing at least a couple fish.

also, make sure your net opening is what you're watching, not the door depth (other than minimum depth). sometimes the net opening is much deeper than the doors and so your net is completely missing the fish.

Thanks for the input guys, we are looking into these issues now and working on adjustments and stability in the trawling section... Stay tuned for more news about this, thanks for the patience all :)
The old way of trawling back at release was so much better. No need to fix something that wasn't broken, now it's horrible. :steamsad:

YEAH I AGREE, but people just can't help it, they need to tinker about thinking it will be better for us, just like our goverment I guess all messed up "BREXIT"

Allright, appreaciate t he input and expect a fix for this coming soon, all input are very valuable .. @Cruzmissile Shipyards - will forward that, thanks...

@chris - I'm glad to hear you guys are listening to players, I'm not trying to ♥♥♥♥ on the game you all work hard on. The bugs will come and go as the game is improved, it's just that trawling isn't very interactive/entertaining as it is now, and that's all you are able to do on the larger boats. Do you guys have any plans/ideas to add line/net fishing to the larger ships, or different larger ships to do that?
