Population map

Ok so just hoping to clear up a few grey areas . If you drop your longline lets say in an area that shows high population of your target fish ,how important is it to have a good showing on the sonar? I mean the map shows heavy population and your lines sit for 20 hous ish so does it matter what fish are swimming by when i drop my line ?
I have noticed the areas with best population tend to not change so how do you know if your depleting the population and hurtng the fish eco system? I keep expecting the population to drop in those areas to signal whe to move on .
I have had a few occasions where i have pulled three empty long ;ine from areas that when the lines were set said they had high population. I'm sure this happens in real life so wasnt sure if that was a bug or just a few episodes of poor luck.

Sonar is useless when longlining in this game.
