I had trouble with the trawling when I first started as well. I have for the most part figured it out but still have questions, it says to make sure the fish on sonar are between the door to catch them but even if I move the boat left to right the fish never seem to move into the right place. Also when I switch to the captains chair and switch the screens while trawling there is a screen that shows you a pentagon with points on it labeled Trawl Speed, Symmetry, Distance and then the bottom two are cut off (ill add a screen shot). I would love it if we could see all the screen. Also what is the symmetry, because no matter how aligned my doors are the symmetry is never where it should be, I think. And I would like to know if the interior of the pentagon should be red or grey for best results. Also the screen called catch, codend never shows anything. I have all my sensors, every upgrade but still it wont show if the bag is getting filled, the boxes next to 10%-20%-40%-60%-80% are always grey. Any help would be great.

I also thought I would add a pick of the trawl door stuck in the stern of the Hermes, happens a lot when I am first starting to trawl.

Having a camera like the trailer where you could see the net in the water and actually see some of the fish would also be very help also scanmars catch upgrade dosent work/register because it actually never says how much is in the net % wise have it maxed out

I would also like to know how to catch Mackerel. I can only seem to catch Pollock with the Lunar Bow. The price for Pollock hardley pays the fuel bill after dishing out crew commissions on that gas-guzzling beast.

You're doing a great job...for many is just a "job" simulator, but for who like me had worked at sea is a great experience!
just don't abandon the game and have a look to our suggested features to be added!

Same here.

I am doing the trawling tutorial, and now I am in control of 2 levers one for each door (whatever that is?) but I have absolutely no idea what I am looking at on the monitors, the radar looking thing are just blobs to me, I dont know where my boat is on that screen or what I am supposed to do with my 2 new levers I can control, the rest of the monitors are meaningless to me, I tried pulling the left lever but nothing seemed to happen with the 2 port things on the radar thing ...

Does anyone have any kind of LP or tutorial uploaded that can explain these things ?

I'm in the same boat (pun intended). I have no clue what the screens mean or what I'm supposed to do with the information. Have searched YouTube for a tutorial but haven't found one yet.

yea. we need a youtube tutorial for the Lunar bow. i have spent 6 houers and havent gotten one fish.... frustrating
uppdate!!! after strugeling for six houers, i finaly gave upp and hauled the net. to my suprise it was full of fish. seams like the fish indikator " 20% 40% 60%" does not work.
grate game anyway.... thoe i only got poollock and no makrill.

The game is certainly great. I caught 59k kgs of Pollack in my Luna Bow during one trawl, but I don't know how I did it. It was pure luck. I have been awarded a Steam achievement for catching 1000 tons of Mackerel but I haven't even caught one in the game..

Early Access is great fun :)

Heres what I know about trawling.

First you need to know the basics.
1. The trawl doors are the metal plates on the back of the vessel that get released when you start trawling.
2. The levers on the left and right of you control the warp lines length, so basically how far out the trawl doors will be from your boat and not the depth, they do not control the depth of the doors, although as the lines go out the depth of the doors will increase slightly.
3. The small lever that you need to unlock in upgrades controls the trawl doors by a small amount which helps with the distance the doors are from one another by a very small amount.

Second is what screens are important to look at while trawling.
1. You need to see the length of the warp lines (how far the trawl doors are from your boat). I usually let the length out to around 125m plus.
2. When you unlock the Trawleye from the upgrades use that screen as it will show info for Height, Opening, Clearance and a symbol of a fish which will show you the amount of fish going into the trawl net with a number from 0, no fish, to 9, lots of fish, next to it.
3. The forward sonar which shows a sonar image from the net looking at the back of the boat and the trawl doors on the port, left, and starboard, right, and it shows blobs of color which are schools of fish coming towards you. Even though I cant seem to move the boat to get the schools of fish to go between the trawl doors and into the net it is still good to see this image as you will know when fish are going into the net.
4. The last screen you want up is the one showing your heading and speed as it is important not to go too fast.
5. There is also a screen you can only pull up from the carptains chair that shows a pentagon shape with labels that show distance, symmetry, speed, and I think depth. This screen is important as you want it to make sure all those things are in the right place to catch the most fish.

When trawling you dont have to do it for hours, you can trawl for a few mins and catch 50 to 60 thousand kg. Just release the trawl doors keep the wire length the same dont go too fast and dont let the warp lines out all the way, 120m to 160m is fine.

I am still learning but I found most of this to be be true and to help, if anyone can add to this or improve this list please do. Hope this helps some of you.

This did help thanks. It also confirmed some issues im having. lik when i move the boat to try and get schools of fish it doesnt move.

Good info here for a budding fisherman. Thanks Bit..

You said that 125 meters is a good distance.

But what would you suggest as a good speed?

I think the tutorial said 5kts

I usually keep the speed at around 3 knots, the waves will make you go slower then faster but around 3 knots is good. Also I am glad my post was able to help you out, took me a bit to figure any of that out, I couldnt find any help for trawling online.

you cant really go to fast anyway the drag comming off the nets on most trawlers slow a normally 15 knot boat to A CRAWL nevermind having fish in the hold
