Quick question on trawling depth.
I'm having mixed to reasonable success with the Lunar Bow, making decent money even though I'm not 100% optimised money over time wise.

I was just wondering, the Lunar is a trawler for near surface work, and the Hermes is a seabed trawler, is this actually modelled in game?

If so, how deep should I be putting the nets on the Lunar? Or does it not really matter?

because of the latest changes the lunar catches a lot of makreles in really short time ( in makreles saison in october ) - so I only let it go for around 60m.
Keep in mind that its way more difficult to control the net if its too far away.
If you are outside the makrele-saison - in November for example - then better try to get near the seabed to catch pollaks. There are some shallow areas - go for them or go close to the ice-border.

don't you need to be in open sea to trawl. i didn't see any ice in the open sea?

there is ice all around...just go straight in any direction long enough and you´ll hit it...

The edge of the map of the trawling area is a giant ice shelf.
which always makes me wonder how i got there in the first place xD

So, other than the different fish are at different depths, well duh, there is no real difference between the trawling line length between the Bow and Hermes.

Just lay it how you want, and you'll get whatever is in that depth, right?
I haven't noticed as much difference when running defferent line lengths/depths with either the Lunar Bow or the Hermes. For both ships, between 100m and 160m warp length is where I catch most everything. As for what I catch and how much of it, depends more on the month of the year (the season). That's just my observations.
The problem most people have is they tend to over-think the trawling, especially with that complicated-as-crap scanmar board. All you really gotta do is drop the net, drag it until you see a huge impact on your engine power, and pull it in. I know it sounds over-simplistic, but it really is.

For me its more of a case of time efficiency and realism. I mean, I know where to roughly aim for mackerel, and for pollock, but the Lunar is a "surface" trawler, and just wondered if that was actually modelled in game, or if it doesn't matter.
From what I can tell it doesn't really matter, at least not a whole lot. The doors and weights are designed to hold the net at different depths, not necessarily the warp length. Not too sure, I'm not a professional trawler IRL.
I don't know if you've seen it, or if it will help any, but someone made a guide on the basics of trawling. 80% of what's in it you might already know, but it might be worth taking a look at. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1298052092

It probably doesn't really answer your question, I'm not a Dev so I have no idea. But from what I've noticed, personally, it didn't make much difference. The Heremes (as a bottom trawler) seems to perform the same in the Pelagic area as it does at the bottom. :/

Ive just found that, on the Hermes, if you let 300m of cable out and stop the ship so they sink to 200+ meteres, you get quite good results. Hope this helps!
