Any difference between this and the GOG version?
Been looking to pick this up, since it's a highly rated CRPG. Sometimes, a game coming to Steam means it's added extra features or functionality, but if there's no noticeable changes, I'll just buy whichever one has a good sale first.

In an unprecedented twist and a move that typically goes against the grain, there's people here on the forums reporting that this version actually runs better and properly on newer OS's compared to the GoG version which they've had issues with.

I was wondering the same thing. Specifically, does the Steam overlay work with this game? And can the game run in a window instead of fullscreen? I don't think the overlay worked before when I added the GOG version as a non-Steam game, and it was fullscreen-only.

No Steam overlay or window mode here. Game version 1.0.7.4, works on Windows 10, and you can install HD-patch easy on this version.

I would go with GOG if I were you if only due to bonus content and better support (and community). Steam might be better for new games but for oldies only GOG. Not to mention that you download an install and you own the game, you can burn it to a DVD or have it on your disk and don't need spyware software to run it.
i have the copy on gog and the bonus content is good which includes the 180 something page manual which is very handy...

The steam version includes the full manual inside the launcher.

You've always been able to window the GoG version with the fan patches and renaming directdraw.dll
GOG version is playable, Steam not.

Same thing can be said about the Steam-only fanboys lol ^^

Yeah I gotta say between the steam only people and the gog only people, from what I've seen on the forums over there, that lot are a lot more zealous and insufferable.
The hostility, and getting chased out of and condemned in threads for merely mentioning that you use or prefer steam is ridiculous.

Meanwhile I'm just here appreciating both platforms, being a 'day one' and subsequently a longer member of GoG than most of those vitriolic users over there to begin with anyway, ironically.

Maybe because Steam is giant sewerage, overflooded with games which simply refuse to launch?

Why the fuck gog-fanboys post on steam forums in the first place?

The biggest difference is that the Steam version includes the CD version's launcher. Wheras the GOG version removed it.
