How's the steam version? Is the game stable? Will it work for windows 8.1?

Been seeing posts saying it doesn't run on modern systems or has issues still, I wonder if it's as bad as people makit it out to be.

how's the game overall? Buggy or stable? from 1 to 10 with 5 being your average bethesda game and 10 being a stable af game. Where does the steam version fit?

Well I am only speaking for myself but 8 for a stable bug free game. I am aware that lots of others have had issues but nothing really bothered me.
I would say though that I came nowhere near finishing the game so maybe I just ducked out before anything bad hit me.

Give your money to GoG instead. They go through the effort to make old games like this compatible with modern systems, and are DRM-free so that if the service dies, the games will still be functional.

I didn't bother launching it without the unofficial patch since the game already has an insane amount of bugs and broken content. However I installed the patch and currently playing through steam with 50+ hours with 0 issues. Didn't run into bugs or glitches either. The mod is a godsend & even restores lost content.

It's currently the best way to play through steam without issues.

I tried the Steam version stock, and out of the box its slow, buggy and the 800x600 resolution looks horrible on a modern gaming monitor. I tried the Multiverse Version advertised here and decided to refund the game due to it not working; 5 minutes into the story; you go to kill the ghost's accomplice and there's a bug that freezes the game when you talk to him. I wish i had tried the unofficial patch, since Ive completed a few half play throughs with it - plus the high res patch

Multiverse and UAP versions are totally different. Like Durucita and I said, the UAP version is rock solid.

Look at the comments here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=760410053 and you'll see that I'm not the only one with the freezing problems. It is a promising mod, since its crowdfunded and still being updated. I cant wait for it to be more stable, as I cant even get it to launch anymore.

If you have trouble: Use a VM with Windows XP for example (just look around with Google, many already "ready to go" packages out there - Install everything there and it runs buttery smooth.

Like the Page states: Multiverse is the combination of the "best" things to improve Arcanum, this includes the unofficial Patch too. Using the Patch only, it´s elevating "Arcanum" to Level "Awesome" too. Use whatever works for you
